Last summer I purchased my second Palm Beach, a 1976 with no awnings. My first coach had one on both sides and I enjoyed and appreciated them. I decided to install a patio and a window awning on my current coach and did some homework. The ZipDee is more expensive but it was original equipment and was reccomended by some of you guys.

The instructions were very difficult to understand, in fact, terrible, but I contacted ZipDee and spoke with Jim Webb. He was exteremely helpful and friendly. As the result of the difficulties I reported, Jim has re-written the instructions and upgraded some of the manufacturing techniques to insure a good installation. If anyone is considering a new awning, ZipDee is the way to go. Thanks Jim and all that helped with suggestions.

We stock the Zip Dee awnings for those on the Western part of the country.
I spoke to Jim about the instruction few weeks ago. His first response was not very positive, so I mentioned that maybe I should start stocking the cheap ones.
He started changing his tune.
Their product is the best, so we stock them, but if they give us excuses, I am never hesitant to tell them what I want done.

I don't like the arms of the ZipDee awnings so I installed a Carefree of Colo box awning mounted on hinges.

I also love my ZipDee's, have them on both coaches. Ours too have
been flawless and problem free. Like anything else you have to
service them just as you service your coach. You have to clean and
dry lube the slides once or twice a years. The 77 came with an A&E
that was in poor shape with the arms sticking and jamming and hard to
slide. Replaced with a ZipDee in 2000.

I feel it is a matter of taste.
Zip Dee does have the superior wning materil called SunBarilla. Seldom
do they tear.
That material is the most expensive part of the Zip Dee.
I like the way the Zip Dee looks from the standpoint of less mass hanging.

From the installer end of it, I will not install anything but a Zip Dee-- I know my customer will want me to readjust any other awning to make it operate better--- but there is no adjustment!  Zip Dee fully supports any awning they have aver produced, and part can be had.  I am using an old fabric to cover my bike-- the stuff almost never wears out-- 30+ years and the stuff is still useable!  It is a small company, very accomodating and supports it's dealer network to the hilt-- you must go out of your way to support folks like that!

With the fact that I see them as just the best you can get, it stands to reason to have a Zip Dee on a GMC-- they match!

do you have water running down the side of the coach? it has no seal against the roof.

I have A+E, full on both sides. Very unforgiving with wind. I was with the rig when it took a wind hit, not that bad. Took 'em apart and whaled with a big hammer so I would not have to force it. Now work ok, but compared to some zip dee I have seen.....

Don't dislike enough to pay cash money to change. Glad it was not my cash to put them on.

Steve, you need to see the bracket that I made to attach the awning to
on top by the rail that hold the fabric. Wind will never bother it.

Nope. Awning is mounted above gutter.
Now maybe in a monsoon....?

I think, I'll stay home.
