Howard,
Generator Interlock Kits ,They install quicker and cost less than Transfer
Switches or Generator Panels. Go to the Web Site below.
http:/interlockkit.com/ and the new Receptacle ,you plug into will be
without power until the Generator is running.

Paul,

Very clever device; I'd never seen one before. It's basically the same
thing as the selector used by Coachmen. For those with no Coachmen
experience, they use a CB panel with a rocker between two CB's, one each for
Shore Power and Generator Power. When either Power CB is turned ON, the
rocker inevitably flips the other one OFF in Break-Before-Make mode.

Thanks,

Ken H.

Square-D makes a sub-panel transfer switch that works the same way.
Two CB's are fed backwards--from the outer terminals, and through
those the buses are fed. One CB is for the generator, the other for
the main panel, with a mechanical interlock that prevents both being
on the at the same time.

Here is one that is rated at 50 amps for the generator input. I can't
find the one I used as a sub-panel for my home backup generator, which
is rated at 60 amps, and they may not make it any more. But this one
is big enough for our appliction.

I would not, however, want to use those circuit breakers for routine
switching. This box is more expensive than the Iota 50-amp automatic
transfer switch, at least the one I bought on sale on ebay, but for
someone needing a new panel, this may work. Of course, the neutral bus
would have to be isolated and insulated for use in a motorhome--as
easy as just providing a new insulated bus for making neutral
connections.
