Is a 2 ton hydraulic bottle jack enough to lift the front end of the 23' model, mainly will be used as emergency for changing flats.
Thanks

Bill,

A 2 ton jack in my experience is not enough. I have a 2 1/2 snap-on floor jack and when I first attempted to hack the front end up the over pressure relief kicked in. So I now use a 6 ton bottle jack with built in jack stand.

If you carry a 4"*4" piece of 3/16" steel and put it under the outside of the lower control arm it will work ok. You do not have to lift it very much to clear the wheel. If you have to lift the entire front or rear end, carry two of them and you will have no problems lifting the rig on the front crossmember using one on each side and jacking equally.

Only in name. I would expect most affordable (read: Chinese-made)
"2-ton" bottle jacks to blow seals when lifting the front of the GMC.
It should be find for lifting one wheel, but that's not that easy
without the right hook.

I use a 3-1/2-ton floor jack to raise the front of the coach and it
works fine.

Bottle jacks can be bought in very high capacities without being
particularly large.

Thanks Rob, Im a little under the gun getting ready for our Thanksgiving campout, I just saw a 2.5 ton floor jack at Autozone with case for $44.00 so I might just get that and carry it with me for this trip, but thanks so much for the link

Bill,
I have jacked up the front of my coaches using both a
3 ton bottle jack and 3 ton floor jack on the frame right
behind the wheel where the diagonal brace attaches
to the frame. I put a piece of 2x4 on top of the jack so
I won't damage the diagonal brace. This has worked
for me at least 20/30 times in the last 10 years.
I have also jacked up on the center of front cross member.
A 2 1/2 ton jack won't last very long. You will be
overloading it and the seals will go out. It will then either
bleed down or not jack the coach up. There have been
times when I couldn't get a jack under the boogie and
I had to jack on the frame at the rear. If this becomes
necessary try to place your jack where the cross
members attach to the side rails. The cross members
give you a little more strength on the rail. Always use
jack stands once the coach is up. Do not rely on the jack.
Charles
