Anyone ever try over sized rims with low profile tires, I have often thought of this and even looked into tire options which make them the same radious or is it circumference or is it both? for gearing, I think the lighter rotating mass would be an asset?

Jay,

I had a mechanically challenged Mate up in Brisbane with a Mercedes 350 call
me to ask what I thought about going from his standard rims to larger ones
with low profile tires. I told him that vehicle suspension design took the
cross section of the tire and sidewall height into consideration for ride
quality. I noted that he probably would get a harsher ride. He thanked me
and a month or so later he contacted me and advised he had gone ahead with
it and now his ride quality sucked and he was not a happy chappy!

Realizing that a GMC is a far cry from a Mercedes I think the ride quality
should be taken into consideration.

thats a given, low profile tires have much stiffer reinforced sidewalls to handle the load, they yeild much less which is why they grip alot better on the road in a performance application. however, they also transmit much more road vibration, so if you go with stiffer lo-pro tires you will get stiffer ride.

wh no just go with 245 tires and a lower final drive? the estra 20mm of rubber will give you a bit more grip if thats what your looking for...
