Hi,Just got back from three days of off road adventure in the SoCal Desert. Coach ran fine but still leaking trans fluid. Maybe a little less. Need more batteries or more solar panels as electrical consumption by Joanne, my son and his friends exceeds available amps. However Generac Primepact 50G ran flawlessly. I only crashed once "big time" on my Suzuki DR650.

Note to Self: Never try to keep up with 24 year old guys on dirt bikes.

This is Ocotillo Wells, about 90 minutes south of Palm Springs on the west side of the Salton Sea. Major offroad recreation area. We happened to be here early on Friday. This area is called the "Cove" and it rapidly fills up during the weekend. Bike, UTV and desert racer noise does not stop until 1:00 am and then the PeeWee riders start up at 7:00 am. Give them a PB+J at noon and they are good to go until bedtime. Unusually there were only 3 Life Flight helicopter landings on Saturday. They do now have an ambulance stationed right at "Shell Reef" a popular 400 ft. high series of large hills popular with the FreeStyle MX crowd. Fun to watch.

Thanks, I should have titled it:
"When All the SOBs Are Buried and Gone Only One Coach Remains Standing" or
"A Coach Outstanding In Its Field".

Ron,
I bought a bunch of lengths of 2" x 3/16 aluminum flat bar then used a
router with a carbide bit to run a 1/8 radius on the edges. Drilled holes
every 10" or so on the flat bar and countersunk them for 1/4" flat head SS
bolts. Then drilled matching holes into the horizontal rail at the body
split line on the coach and used nutserts. Sent the rail out for
powdercoating to match the silver stripe between the blues. Once the rail
was sealed and bolted on I used a blue 7/8" wide vinyl moulding with the 3M
red tape to cover the bolt holes. The clearance lights are common truck
light pieces. The original SS moulding with the rubber insert was shot and
some end clips were missing plus the inserted rubber strips never look good
after a while in my opinion.

You might check with JimB. I believe he has a solid rubber strip that he
offers about 2" wide and I think I saw it on SteveF's coach and it looked
pretty good. I'm into my rails for about $250.00 plus labor.

Thanks

Gary,

Nice shot. It looks like you had the whole place to yourselves (at least when you first got there). I'm getting ready for my anual trip to the Imperial Sand Dunes, between Brawley and Yuma. Thanksgiving weekend is probably the busiest of the year when an estimated 160,000 people are there. That is a lot of RVs, ATVs, UTVs, Rails, and Jeeps (my personal favorite).

We camp in an area known as "Ogilby" on the North side of I-8, along "Sidewinder Road". The noise goes on well into the night there too, although it is more of a family oriented area, and not as bad as Glamis, Gordon's Well, Buttercup, and others. I don't dare take the GMC in quite as far as I took my truck or other dual wheel SOBs. The road gets really loose, soft and sandy. I'm hoping to get ahold of one of Jim K's posi diffs and plan on running some wider tires, at some point.

I have to have Billy straighten out a registration problem I have encountered on GMC Photos and then learn how to post pics, and I will put some up after the trip.

Carl, Yes we've been to the Glamis area a couple of times. Gets pretty darn
crazy out their during Thanksgiving and Christmas. We've not been to where
you are describing but it does sound a lot more family oriented. Post some
pics. Like to see your spot.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.. They really do look great! Were you able to get the rails in long enough pieces so you would not have too many seam?

Hi. Used 4 pieces on each side of my 23. One from the front to the door, the
door, and then one from the door to about 10 ft and then another piece for
the rear. So really only one seam. I used grey/silver silicone to bed them
in and you have to really look for the seam to find it.

Gary,
That has to be the least occupied I have ever seen that area. In the
winter time, that entire desert from Gordon's Well, to Glamis, looks
like winter time in Yuma when the snow birds take over. How did you
ever find such an isolated spot?

Great Carlton.
Some of the folks attending will be staying in furnished Park Models
in the park. They're getting them for $80 a nite. Will you be
joining us for the meals?

Carleton,
Call Art Bale at 208-755-3106
He's the manager. I don't know how many of those park models they
have there. He's your best chance.
