I know there have been some spirited discussions about tires in-the-past and I don't wish to stir that pot.

I'm trying to decide if I can (or even should) use Passenger tires on the trailer I use to tow my Lotus 7 replica. The car weighs less than 1500 pounds and I doubt the trailer (the tandem uses 4 15 inch tires) is anywhere near 1,000# - even if I add spares.

Even cheap replacement tires carry a 1,500 pound rating, so I'm well below the maximum -- 6,000 pound weight (4 x 1500), no?

I'm told that the handling dynamics of a trailer are different than an auto 'cause thet don't - per-se - turn. It occurred to me one could say the same thing about the rear tandem on the GMC - though I don't recall a specific conversation about that.

So, anyone shine light on using passenger tires on a trailer? What do I need to look for? I'm considering tires spec'd for a Chev S-10 pick-up.

PS: I don't mind spending a little more for trailer tires - HOWEVER, I don't want to pay MORE for tires simply 'cause their rare and happened to be spec'd LT. There's MUCH better selection of Passenger tires (and better prices)

TIA, Jim
