Someone on the list had mentioned that a fellow GMCer had installed an AC unit under his refrigerator cabinet. In measuring the available space, it seems that you could fit a normal window unit in the space and get a 10,000 BTU, 120 volt unit to fit. Obviously, you need to vent the hot air. The wheel well seems to be the only choice I can imagine, and I don't know how good it is to add extra heat into the tire and brake area of the coach.

Has anyone seen this coach or had any experience? I like the idea of a relatively clean roof rather than a big box sitting up there, and the window AC units certainly are a lot less expense than the roodtop RV units (especially if you're looking at a low profile one).

George,

The mod was done by Manny Trovao of transmission fame.

I don't think he monitors the GMCnet.

He is currently on a Mediterranean Cruise.

I have been inside Manny's coach and spent few days with the unit
running. It works ok, but cool air tends to stay lower so one need to
supply cool air toward the top and diffuse.
It would take ducting to make it effective and will need a strong
blower to push the air through the duct.

There is a Texan with a 23 footer that has done it. Looks very nice. I was in his coach at Santa Rosa. Can't remember his name. He has the coach painted in Texas colors with a big star on it. Someone will respond with his name.

I think Jim Anaset (sp) was the first to do this. He used the ac from the
roof and just put in the basement ;>) He wanted a clean roof.

so did Manny

No pictures come to mind but it seems that someone in the past had installed an after market hang under the dash type evaporator up near the generator start/stop switch area. I remember from the picture that it seemed to be a tidy looking flush mount with the busy end protruding behind the refrigerator. I seem to also remember that the old over designed ac compressor was of such capacity that it could run both dash and aux units. Quite an ambitious engineering project. Maybe someone else remembers more.
