G’day,

I want to turn the spare tire around and makeup a round compartment to store
hoses in. Jim Wagner has done this and I found photos he put up on the Photo
site but they are not close up enough for my tired eyes to see what / how he
did it?

Jim, if you’re out there could you post some more pictures?

Or if anyone else has done it post pictures to the Photo site or send them
to me and I’ll post them!

Thanks & regards,
Rob Mueller

Rob,

I did that 10 years or so ago. Hauled a spare hose around in there for
several years until I found where it disappeared to & removed it.

It's trivially simple: Measure from the back of the coach how much
clearance you want from the modified mount (I made it a little too close
so the mount CAN hit the body). Use a Magic Marker to mark (using a
guide block) where the tubular uprights need to be cut so the wheel
mounting plate can be rewelded. Most spares I've seen lean out at the
top; I marked mine so it would lean toward the coach. Remove the mount,
cut as marked, and mount the wheel mounting plate. I found it easier to
make a new plate than to cut off and clean up the old one. Then just
mount the spare backward with all that storage space facing the rear.

No photos without removing the spare -- if it will come off after all
this time. :-)

Jim,

Thanks for taking the time and going through the trouble of removing the
spare and taking close-ups. These pictures combined with Ken's instructions
will make this job a piece of cake!
