I finally have gotten around to installing a cook top replacement that I bought last January (from ronthebus). The replacement has what looks to me to be a regulater on the inlet pipe. My original cooktop does not have this feature on it. I think I need to take that off. I'm sure the regulator would be necessary in hooking straight up to a propane bottle. But since the GMC has a regulator on the supply tanks, it is not necessary and maybe would not even work.
Am I looking at this in the right way??

thanks, Don Baker, Burleson, Texas 1977 Kingsley twin bed, dry bath

I may be way off base on this but here goes:

I have a three burner Suburban propane rangetop. It originally had a
regulator on it. I could always smell a little propane in the coach. Not
enough to kick off my alarm but enough to smell it. I tested everything and
could not find a leak. Since this was the only appliance with a regulator I
changed it out with a new one. Same problem. I finally took it out and just
used the GMC regulator at the tank. No more problem. My propane guy said
that with two regulators the pressure on the stove one was so low that it
was not closing the diaphragm in the stove regulator and a very small amount
of propane was bypassing. I don;t know if he was correct or not but the
smell is gone and the stove works just fine.

Thanks

Don,
You need only one regulator for the LP and on the GMC it is located at
the LP tank. You should check and see if it is set for 11 inches of
water pressure. There should be no other regulator in the LP system.

Don,

It has been seeveral years since I put my cook top in but if I remember right I either had to take an orfice out or put one in. Mine was set up for natural gas. It depends if the unit was designed for natural gas or propane. If it is designed for natural gas, then an orfice change is necessary for propane use.

Thank you Gary Worobec and John Wright, that is good enough for me. I thought that was the deal, just wanted a little push. I was just getting ready for a Thanksgiving campout with the family and friends. I also found a broken alternator belt, just laying under the GMC. I guess it was tired. Better here than on the road. thanks again, Don Baker
