Netters,

My wife and I are having a "GMC Warming" party at our house this weekend.  This is something she has been talking about doing ever since we got the coach a little over a year ago.  So, we are inviting friends, family, and co-workers over for an open house on Sunday.

She has put me in charge of coming up with a "GMC Trivia Quiz" for the entertainment of the guests, and I could use some help with this.  Does anyone know if such a thing exists?  If not, I am openly soliciting suggestions to include in the "quiz"

Thanks,

Carl S.

Ask them if the know what the military name was for the GMC motorhome in the movie Stripes.

The answer is: EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle.

One thing that I had prepared was to copy the pics from the brocures into a file on the computer. I renamed them by year/model/disc of pic

Renaming the file keeps them in order.

When you use my computer and select the pics you can then put them on slideshow, what an amazing touch to watch these.

You can also slip in a few of your own or campground shots, maybe a few of the countryside as well, a deer here, bear there, birds......

A nice touch and only takes an hour or so.

Works on laptop or other computing device.

Just a thought and those brochures photos are so shiney new that it just picks the spirit of the party up.

Okay, here's another bit of trivia: What does GMC stand for - as in the label on trucks and motorhomes? General Motors Corporation? Nope. General Motors Coach, the original name of General Motors Truck and Coach, the division that built the trucks. I'm 99% sure it's true.
Gary

Some other info you can make into trivia:

There was a Black GMC in the movie twister.

It's built like a pontiac fiero and GM's minivans. steel cage with bonded panels.

In 1902 Max Grabowski founded a company called the "Rapid Motor Vehicle Company", which developed some of the earliest commercial trucks ever designed. In 1909 the company was bought by General Motors to form the basis of the General Motors Truck Company, from which GMC Truck was made. In 1912 the name "GMC Truck" was first shown at the New York Auto Show. In 1996 GM dropped the word 'truck' from the GMC Truck name, thus creating the GMC name as we know it today.
There never was a Grabowski Motor Company or a Grabowski Motor Corp.
>

The above (carjunky.com) is not quite accurate, below is some detail I wrote in response to this question a couple of years ago:

A little history:
Brothers Max and Morris Grabowski formed the Grabowski Motor Vehicle Company and built a prototype in 1900. Using the initials of this company would result in "GMVC" (GMC was still 12 years from being formed).

1902 Grabowski Motor Vehicle Co. reorganized as Rapid Motor Vehicle Co. (end of theGrabowski vehicle name).

1912 the first truck with the GMC logo was shown at the New York Auto Show (Jan.) The GMC was actually formed with the consolidation of Rapid (1902), Reliance (1902 and Randolph (1908).

The above information can be found in the book, "GMC, The First Hundred Years", by John Gunnell.

So, believe the production volumes you have. Those are probably correct.
If one model year seems to run over, then there is also probably a hole
in the VINs of that model year.

If you didn't follow all this, I will try again. I think I did
understand it - Once.

Thanks, everybody, for your help with the trivia questions. It is going to be a short quiz, since most of our guests are not too GMC savvy, but we have managed to incorporate several of your suggestions.

If anybody here does not already have Bill's GMC - DVD and CD collections, they are well worth the investment in both money and time, and provide hours of entertainment.

Thanks again!

Chevy had an interesting combination on their hands at their Willow Run plant. They had the rear engine Corvair on the same line, and at the same time as the front engine Chevy 2. So the 23 ft, and the 26 ft. shouldn't have been an issue for GMC.

In our case it stands for the "Goffin's Mobile Condo" or "Goffin's Mobile Cage". Chloe being a Goffin's Cockatoo. There is no such thing as getting a "free" bird.
