To Ken H. et.al.,
Thanks for the info on the modulator/governor modifications. I have turned the adjustment screw in 1/2 turn for now on the modulator, just to see what happens. Modifying the governor sounds intriguing, but more than I want to get into now with my limited facilities. Perhaps this would be an item for one of the Jim's to come up with.

With different gear ratios and loads, it will be hard to have one to
work on different coaches, besides it is lot of work to modify the
governor and they are in high demand as cores.

Way back when (it seems like more and more things happened "way back then"....:-) I used to do tons of governer modifications, but I had a governer test stand to verify the changes.  Generally, the primay weights (the outer heavy ones) get drilled to lighten them.  This pushes out the medium throttle 1-2 shifts and the coasting 2-3's, which I think would help a lot.  One can just lighten only one of the primaries and then it turns it into a 3-slope governer instead of a 2-slope.  The secondary weight mods will push out the higher-throttle 2-3's.  The springs can be changed to adjust the break point, but the WOT 1-2 is pretty sensitive to that.  A little trickier.  Yes, it would be good to have a spare on hand and the only thing I would do without having a test stand would probably be just to drill holes in the primaries.  All those are not hard to do and won't likely result in scrapping the governer.
