Didn't some parts of CA experience severe heat last summer?

We also had unusually hot weather last month...hottest recorded since
1901!

Dave,

I arrived in Houston in late May to work on Double Trouble; it was OK for
the first week so THEN it got HOT!

I had a number of things I HAD to get done before Helen arrived (June 17th.)
but the temps climbed well into the high nineties and hit over 100 on a
number of days! That combined with the 95% humidity made progress VERY slow!
It was exhausting for a semi-old fart such as myself! I discovered that
there was no way I could get done what I HAD to get done before Helen arrive
and we left on our tour of the central mid-west a week late! I later heard
that the temps in Houston in June were the highest since 1980!
