ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO BUY A GOOD REPAIR MANUAL FOR THE TH-425 WITH LOTS OF PICTURES? MY TRANS OR TORQUE CONVERTER SEEMS TO SLIP IN HIGH GEAR UNTIL I THROTTLE BACK TO 2000 RPM AND GET IT PAST 65 MPH. I HAVE A CADDY 500 CU INCH MOTOR AND THE TRANS WAS REBUILT BEFORE I BOUGHT THE COACH. IT HAS ALWAYS HAD A WHINE THAT SOUNDS LIKE A POWER STEERING PUMP THATS LOW ON FLUID WHEN I PUT IT IN ANY GEAR.THE FILTER AND OIL ALONG WITH THE MODULATOR WERE CHANGED BY ME WHEN I BOUGHT THE COACH. THE COOLER I INSTALLED KEEPS IT AT 190 DEGREES AND IT HAS NEVER GIVEN ANY TROUBLE . DO ALL GMC"S SLIP LIKE THIS? I AM GOING TO ATTEND THE NEXT RALLY IN TEXAS AND TRY TO GET A RIDE WITH SOMEONE TO FIND OUT..

buy one from Manny
many of the parts you need are no longer made and Manny has them built for
him.
even the paper and rubber kits are no longer available
He has a TC re-builder that he has grown over the years
yup, save yourself a lot of headaches, Manny is our only answer
Manny is a life line and the only one doing this work now, Dunn is gone ,
and Patterson has stopped also, for the same reasons.

Just a quick note, the oil seal that fits on the governor (driver side) may be impossible to buy alone. So, if you pull the governor to repair the gear at the bottom, remove the seal from inside the governor body and place it on the shaft, before re-installing the governor.
If anyone has a source for some, I would like 2. PM me.

No, they do not slip like that - most likely it is the "third clutch" slipping because it is either burned or the transmission is low on pressure. Does the transmission also slip in reverse? It uses the same clutch as third. There is really no way the torque converter will slip(more than normal, that is). The noise you describe makes one think it is low on oil or the pump is sucking air, which could result in low oil pressure, especially in third gear. If the filter was replaced, is the O-ring on the inlet tube in good shape? Allowing the clutch to slip for more than a few seconds can destroy the clutch, so don't keep doing it. Is the oil still red and clear or is it amber colored (and smell bad)? If it is amber or brown, cloudy and smelly the transmission is likely toast. You definitely need to find the problem before it is too late and the transmission has to be rebuilt.
