Gentlemen, I have had my Rig for about 5 years. My house in Cali for about 4. I need to keep my house (hard times) so I may need to sell the GMC. I paid 17500.00 and have added about 5K. Any idea on if coaches are selling and for how much relative to 5 years ago?
In other words if I paid 17500.00 could I expect perhaps 12K now?
Need some encouragement 'bout now.
Thanks,

been there,done that.
was trying to sell mine. I ran into a bunch of sharks looking, like surface rust on my chrome headers type of comments.
My difference is that, i haven't lost my job, house is not in foreclosure, coach is free and clear, I don't have to sell.
Then these sharks offer stupid prices, like $1000 to $2000.
Real buyers do exist, they are just hard to find.Don't set a time frame to sell, and you won't be disappointed.

I can't speak to the GMC marketplace but I do have some thoughts on selling.

I look at listings all over the country all the time for GMCs and Revcons.

Most people do a lousy job of listing their coach. Craigslist allows you to use a lot of words but few people take advantage of that.

THere are two audiences and you should try to reach both of them- For people who know about GMC's list all the GMC specific stuff that matters; - new CV joints, air bags, etc

And then provide an extensive explanation for a potential new convert.

Be a little cocky. Tell your potential buyer to go test drive some other $12,000 motorhome and then drive yours.

Provide links to all the GMC resources out there. Address all the arguments he will have with his wife- " what do you mean it's over 30 years old "

At that price it needs to be READY TO GO. Maybe stock it with stuff, plates, flatware, folding chairs, the idea is - buy this today, camp in it tomorrow.

good luck

I really agree with you Dave. And I think you are quite right these days a 12 grand coach ought to road worthy and ready to go.

I too look for GMC's all the time and folks really do a poor job of selling their coaches. Poor, short descriptions. Often 2 or 3 pictures of the same side of the outside, none of the inside, no mention of any upgrades, they all have "new" tires, need a "little" TLC and they all are worth $12,000. Or they are "all oriiginal" for $7,500.

Maybe on Craigslist they just expect you to be local and come by to look.

That's a big factor for a lot of people, the sense that it's only local. As much as Craig would like it to be local, there are tools to scour craigslist around the country and people who are seriously looking for something will do that.

So you write your ad to provide enough information to someone on the other side of the country.

I can tell you that right now there are not any east of the Mississippi at that price point. They are all around $5K and presumably have some issues.

There might be a guy in Ohio who really wants a GMC and if you convince him that he can fly out and drive yours home, you may have a sale.

If you get serious and need some help I can put an unlimited number of photos on a web page and assist with writing and editing.

Your ISP may offer a free website with your internet account.

Why not put together a simple website with a more in-depth description of your coach with photos etc. (MS Word worked FINE for me.)

Then, place your Craigs List ad with a link to your write up.

http://riskmanagementsearch.com/adgmc/gmcad8.htm

BTW: Don't forget to link your write up on the GMC forum. I had a couple cash offers within an hour of placing a note on this forum.

PS: The GMC II may be a "special case" (and was priced right - maybe even, cheap) but good marketing still applies.

Take LOTS of pictures, but clean up and "stage" the coach before taking the pictures. Try and make it look like a magazine layout... well almost. I remember someone trying to sell a coach for something like $40k and had pictures of dirty clothes on top of everything!

Have it darker outside when taking pictures on the insides. Take the coach to a nice looking location to take pictures of the outsides. The trick of getting good pictures is to take LOTS of pictures. If you, like me, get about 10% good pictures (1 in 10) take about a 1000 pictures. Digital pictures are cheap.

Criag's list only allows 4 pictures so make sure you post all four. Try and show all 4 sides and both directions of the insides. Give them a link for the other pictures.

The market seems to be recovering. 12K for a nice ready to go coach isn't out of line. It just requires good marketing and patience. It may take until next spring though.

Just a note, I think that Birch I posted about the other day has already sold... almost 10k.

The market for what is recovering? The market for a scrap car last week
was $150 a ton. Monday it was $120 a ton. Today it was $95 and we were
advised tomorrow it will be $75. Tacoma Steel controls the price in the
Pacific NW and this is what they advised. I think I will get rid of the
"Gerbil" and rent my GMC out as a dog kennel.

GMC's.

I do not know if it just a little bubble or really starting to rise. (Kind of like the stock market.) As I have a second coach I want it to go up... but I am not going to hold my breath.

I personally think the reason most GMC's take either forever to sell or sell for relitively low prices is that they are customised to owners own tastes which may not exactly be what potential buyers are looking for or like.

Some of the exterior colours, graphics and interior missmatches I have seen would only be appealing to a blind man , so If you are thinking of refurbing your unit and may want to sell it later at least consult someone who knows about colour cordination and design before going ahead putting in a blue carpet and brown seats etc.

Mike;
I thought the picture of the white with blue trim was the one you had
for sale. Now I realize it was not.

I was mistaken. The coach was moved and the ad on criagslist was gone... both are back now. Still a nice coach for the money.

Thank you all. The beauty of my coach (in my very biased) opinion is very original cosmetically in and out. Tasteful Eleganza 2 gold corduroy and dark wood interior/gold and brown exterior. Many useful mods. Headers, K&N filter, KYB's, front spacers, Alcoa's, Kumho ragwalls, PowerMaster Brakes,Progressive Dynamics smart charge, hard-wirded 750w. inverter, 3 Fantastic Fans, digi-panel, Tach-Vac, Custom rear toolbox and hitch, blu-ox, brake buddy, ragusa step, guske front cover, macerator, flor. lights, fr. and rr. aux. lights, custom diff. etc.
Overall though it is only in "good" condition.
Very good advise from every one, I know I would have to spend many hours on prep and stageing, we sometimes wear blinders when looking at our own rigs and use a microscope when examining someone else's. Hopefully the ol' gal will stay with me. (Coach...not wife)
Thanks
