Ok, I bought a 78 Transmode with a liftgate. Sadly the door is sagging and more of a pain than its worth! So, I am looking for an entire back panel to bolt up, paint and start tailgating. Anyone have one for sale or know where I can get one?

Is this the "bad" rear panel?

<http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=30697>

From this picture, it doesn't look like it would be that difficult to repair, at least enough to seal up perminetly closed. Granted, I can not see the insides but to me, the only reason to replace the rear hatch would be to regain the rear window. How much is that worth to you and your plans for the coach?

Does the coach still have the lip around the edge that the hatch bolts to?

I live in toledo, OH. I travel a bunch and would not be opposed to picking one up depending on its location. If someone has the ability to ship it to me I might also be very interested because my work location has shipping docks and that is where my GMC is located. I appreciate everyones help on this.

The fiberglass door is in such disrepair now that It wont seal on the bottom and the top hinge is pulling out of the ceiling. The back door is on its final days.

I'm 700 miles from you- it's a lot warmer here.

I'll be cutting this GMC up eventually. IS $200 reasonable?

If you come get it you can cut off all the adjacent material as well.

How much does it weigh?

I have some delivery ideas- email me gmc@davesilva.com

Jeff,

Thanks for providing your location; I would suggest you check with Tom
Hampton at:

Grandview Motorhomes
13880 West Weaver Road
Marysville, Ohio 43040

Tel: (937)644-4238
Email: grandviewh@peoplepc.com

He might be able to help.

Also you didn't answer Mike's question:

"Does the coach still have the lip around the edge that the hatch bolts to?"

If it doesn't are you sure a standard panel will bolt right in?

I would suggest you open the door and take some more pictures so we can see
what's there. You may not be able to mount a standard rear panel!

If the lip has been removed, it will take a LOT more to return the coach to stock. Rick did something like this... see:

<http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=3787&ppuser=214>

I hope you do not NEED to do anything this drastic. That is why I was asking about the need for the stock sized window. If there is no lip, I would look into fiberglassing the current door closed.

It is an oroginal door that has been poorly "re-engineered" as a lift gate. all the edges/lips are there for the original panel. I sized it up with another GMC down the street from me.

Jeff,

Glad to hear that!

If you need screws to hold the new panel in contact Jim B he has a "kit"
that replaces them.

That is good news. (About the lip.) Saves you LOTS of work. When acquiring the "new" rear hatch, be sure and get replacements for any interior trim that was "modified" or removed during the conversion.

The problems with the liftgate just shows the time and effort that it takes to "do it right." Hats off to Jim B and the "C-130." I hope someone has the need, and the resources, to finish it.

I am wondering if I want to even keep my 2 roof units on my GMC Transmode Limo? The are in working condition but not hooked up to the generator that I have yet to purchase. I was wondering peoples opinions on what options I have with sun roofs or some form of fresh air vent system. I live in NW Ohio where it doesnt get really hot and I dont plan on driving it in the snowy/icy winter roads.

So, is this a possible leak path that I will regret or are their options that can improve both the looks of the GMC and or functionality?

J Mac,

Don't toss them or sell them off just yet. With the glass area in a GMC, they can become a sauna in the sun. I have not known leakage to be a big issue, but others (most) have more GMC experience than I.

If you go to remove them, remove the covers first - they break easily and are as valuable as the unit itself.

If you would like to borrow (or buy) the 14" vent that I used to put in my coach every fall so it could make it under the barn door, it is available <cheap>.

You are in NW OH, I am less than and hour (4 gallons r-trip by car) and am very experienced and rigging and removing and replacing these units. - Let me know.

Are you the Tripp 33 out of NCYC that we (Shenanegan-J33) sailed with in Mills and others?
