I've always found that checking the transmission oil was an exercise in frustration. Warm everything up, find a level spot... pull out the dip stick, clean, re-insert and pull out again...
Ok.. were exactly is the oil level, there is oil on the stick but that is about the only thing I can be sure of. Its always been a very hard stick to read..

Does anyone have a trick to get a clear reading?

I understand about removing the modulator, but thats not an easy method either.
