G'day,
While John Sharpe and I were installing the Pertrionix ignition kit on
Double Trouble noticed that the muffler, pipe and associated hardware were
really rusty and sometime during it's life it had gotten hit driving the
rear section upwards and inwards.
I took a quick look on Gene's website where I found that Golby was selling a
SS version and another owner had fitted a muffler he got from Napa.
Unfortunately neither of these two articles are dated so I have no idea if
the info is current.
I would like to get the parts to replace the muffler BEFORE it dies.
Suggestions please.

Rob,
This is from a thread in 2007
Quote....
Shortly before Dothan, Alan showed up here with a busted exhaust pipe on the
6kW onan in the X-PB. The one from the iron manifold down to the muffler.
The muffler shop didn't have anything near the right size. We wound up
using a piece of chain link fence top rail. It was almost the perfect size.
The bend was made with heat from a propane torch since I was out of O2 for
the hot wrench.

I got a replacement muffler for my onan at Tractor Supply Company [TSC]
It was in the tractor muffler rack and marked for an IH 20 tractor.
It's just about an exact fit right down to the attachment bold.

I am currnetly working on this same project, the muffler i purchased
for $45.00 from my local onan dealer here in tulsa
they have a branch in houston: http://www.cummins-sp.com/locations/houston.htm
muffler part number: 155-1222
they also sold the down pipe but it was 150.00 ( i did not purchase this)
down pipe part number: 155-1260
the muffler inlet measures 1 1/2 inches inside diameter. I am going to
contact my local muffler shop to see if they can do it. if not i will
fabricate something.
on that note, as i am dissasembling the downpipe, it seems to be
welded or jb weld.. something of that nature, is that necessary? or
can i just use the u clamp?
hope that helps,
David

Well I hate to say it but I bought the SS muffler etc. from Golby a few
years ago and hated it!! It made way too much noise. I ended up buying an
Onan muffler off EBay and installed that. I found that to be much quieter
than the Golby one. I still have the SS muffler, pipe in my garage, and
might use it for my Onan powered garden tractor.

Those two bolts come out very quickly. It is a small inconvenience but
then, how often do you slide your Onan out?
