The copilot and I were chatting today about some of my future plans for the dash. Being a techie type, an all "glass" (well plastic and LCD, really) cockpit like in a modern jetliner would be cool. Think of the dash flat across from side to side (like the pass side) with one or two pods sticking up with LCD's and some controls. All gauges would be on the display which would also have pages for tuning, etc...
SHE (that drives the turbocharged Volvo)was saying, sure what happens if the display craps out (these things being made in China) and goes blank while driving. How will you know what speed you are going? Of course, being two leadfooters, this question has merit in this household.
It also got me thinking...
...Anyone here ever gotten pulled over in their GMC for speeding?
Anectodes and stories are welcome here.

When my speedo says I'm going 70, the GPS says I'm going 73, at 55, GPS says 52. I'd like to make it more accurate, any ideas on how I could do that?
My previous PO put in a 3:21 final drive in October 1993 and then changed it again to a 3:42 in July 1994.

Roger,
Just the mention of Lanier's name brings a smile to my face. IIRC, he
took the prize for most outrageous towed vehicle also. An Excalibur I
believe?

I'm sorry.....my CRS must have kicked in....I had my numbers wrong and I have no clue how that happened. Thanks for bringing it to my attention Ken.
Let's try this again...
When my speedo says I'm going 70, the GPS says I'm going 63,
at 55, GPS says 50......so my speedo is reading about 10% higher than actual.
I'd like to make it more accurate, any ideas on how I could do that?
My previous PO put in a 3:21 final drive in October 1993 and then changed it
again to a 3:42 in July 1994.

Ray,
Seems to me, with the speedometer reading low at 70 and high at 55, you can
only correct it internally. I'm bringing my old one to Dothan if you want
to try it.

Jim;
You deserve to go broke. I wouldn't take it out for $50 and I bet you
are also going to spend the time telling people how to successfully
install it. He needs the rubber too, so maybe you can make lunch money.

Here's a blast from the past. I see several names here that have gone on to
that great campground in the sky. And, the beginnings of a great list that has
stood the test of time.

I don't know what the record is but in the late 70's and early 80's I drove my
'77 Royale w/403 above 100 MPH regularly up and down the hills of US 49 S and
east to FL, and got a few tickets to prove it. The naysayers can BMB.

Roger,
We do not use electric fans on our GMC. There is no way that any number of
electric fans could ever come close to pulling the amount of air that the
engine fan pulls. If they did, they would draw some serious amps. The
engine fan is huge! We would consider putting pushers on the front of the
radiator to give some control and help out, but I don't think it would be
wise to replace the engine driven fan.

Appreciate everyone who has added their name to this list. Think there
should be some rules, for the good of all. Also some understanding that I
am just a care taker at the moment. This list is open to ALL on this list
as this is the ONLY place the list will be posted. This list is your
responsibility when you get it on your computer. You will control it from
that point on. IT WILL BE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY
WHERE IT GOES FROM THERE.
I previously stated that I would post it via private request. Change to
that is: you can request the list anytime privately or on the list. Private
request probably best, but actual posting of the file will ONLY be made to
the list. Again, I will only include name, city, state, area of assistance,
and phone #'s. No street addresses as I cut them out.
Need help on how to improve. Yep, improve already. Would this list as a
doc file sent as an attachment be better? Seems to me that that would be
the way to go as we could then save it to a separate file and be able to add
personal names and addresses for quick print out before a trip. Any idea?
You can email me private so as not to load up the listserve at
rblack@tecinfo.com
I understand the need for privacy and want to honor that will all names.
Send in your ideas to assist me in maintaining this list. BTW, I am not a
computer guru and may ask for help from you.
Thanks to all who have responded. Since I have not met any of you except
via the net (plan to meet Lanier this week), I will send you a bio if you
request so you will know some of who you are sending information to.

Lanier was definitely a character. I visited him several times at his home and
he was a true Southern Gentleman. For those who never met him or corresponded
with him, they missed a real treat. I can picture him hitting those hills
between Jackson and Hattiesburg on US 49 at a hundred mph with a biiiiig grin on
his face and enjoying every minute of it. At least he would until Mississippi's
finest finally caught up with him. {:>) Bet he gave them a run for their money,
though.
