I’m still with you. Currently up in the NC mountains watching and w
aiting to see what happens with the hurricane but hopefully will miss our Florida home.
I am with you when it comes to social media, as I always felt the email worked well.
Now that the price of fuel is getting more reasonable we hope to get out in the GMC again.
And Ken don’t worry about that 85 year old thing as I will be there with you hopefully in a few months.

I'm still here. Sure do miss the daily load of GMC emails. So easy to save/archive. So easy to reply. Almost always interesting and informative threads.
I've still got my '73 Glacier. Hasn't been on the road much in the last couple of years. The engine fuel & oil problem is well solved, but now it has another fuel delivery problem. I know how to T-shoot and fix - just too much other stuff to take care of.
Although, Ken, if anybody knows, you would -- what is the length of the oil dipstick from the hole behind the exhaust manifold into the pan? My dipstick tube broke off right at the manifold. I have a new one from Jim K., but getting the old one out (whether through the top, or out the drain hole as has been suggested, might turn out to be worse than not having any dipstick at all.
I'm thinking of fab'ing one up as a temporary that is short but long enough to get the oil level at some accuracy.
Glad to know there are still emailers around. There has to be a way to revive it.

Toby,
Just install something you know is a bit long with a compression butt joint somewhere in it, but don’t install the compression ring on the upper section just yet. Do an oil change and pour in your usual amount. Then, shorten that upper section in little bits until the dipstick reading is where you expect it, install the compression ring, and tighten it down. BTDT. Mine broke about half an inch into the block. I stuck it back in and clamped it to the transmission tube with a hose clamp. That worked for a couple of years, and then I installed a replacement, still only half an inch into the block, using the above method. We put in a new tube and a salvaged dipstick when we installed the new motor at Ken’s a few years ago.
Ken,
I’m still here. I don’t have age as an excuse for not using the coach, but I am enjoying my new warm and dry place to work on it. I also have a list, but I missed the hiatus in my travel schedule that Covid brought, so time is again a challenge.
Billy has helped me get logged back into the forum, but even forums are considered passé these days.

You could always completely drain the oil, then refill it with the prescribed amount minus 1 quart. The level you get on any dipstick would be pretty close to the low mark. Add 1 quart, and that should be a pretty close approximation of the high mark
As a bonus, you get an oil change in the bargain.

I’m still here, but I’ve decided to sell the 3 GMC’s I’ve got rather than let them sit unused any longer.
With the passing of My Best Friend and NASCAR Race Buddy Lee, My Brother and original Minor GMCnut Mike, and My Mother as My CoPilot , I seem to have lost the enthusiasm I once had to keep them going.

Well it says 2004 but I know it was before that because I retired in 2002 or 2003 and I was
viewing / posting while I was still working.
I've always used what I consider to be the "FORUM" never used Email.
What is this I'm reading about a "new" FORUM ??

Hey, George,
Did you & the other Atlanta gang see the note from "CJD"? Another "Atlanta
Yankee" (to us in S. GA) with a GMC. Y'All need to bring him into the fold
-- he obviously has some "new guy" needs.
Y'All don't forget I'm here -- my pit's now open since Alan's got "Tweety
Bird" -- for at least a while. Since he's gotten it under shelter, that
may be a long "a while", so if anyone needs bottom side access, it's here.
To "CJD": We'd like to meet you and learn more of your name, etc.
Unfortunately, we lost one of the best GMC shops a couple of years ago
when the one in Buford, GA closed. I don't know where to refer you to any
closer than Okeechobee, FL; maybe some of the other N.GA guys does.

Hi y'all
I'm Derek wife's Natalya and we are new to the scene. We are in Atlanta
moved from NY about 2 years ago. We recently picked up our GMC from Barry
Owens to get a rebuilt engine put into it. I would love to connect to other
GA GMC people. I am new to all this and learning as I go. I did give some
calls to some of you like Johnny bridges to introduce myself and had some
questions. I'll post a video of my GMC in this link. Really glad to be part
of this community and can't wait to learn more as I go. I still have my
dixielanders sign up sheet sitting in my desk which I should have filled
out soon. Feel free to give me a call or text 5167139107

Hi Derek and Natalya,
I don't post much anymore, but I am so glad to see this activity on the
gmcnet now,
I always read the post, there used to be a lot of activity. I just looked at
9 years ago
(as far back as my email goes) this month, there were 145 post on the day I
looked at!
I went to the Bean Station rally
in 2004 (incredible rally) there I met Barry Owens, I ended up going to his
shop afterward
and spending 3 days there. He is a really interesting character, formerly
had a NASCAR racing
team, he BUILT the cars! He had 40 or 50 Corvair's a nice house on a lake
with a large personal garage
with IIRC 2 lifts, Corvairs top and bottom on both. While I was staying
there he bought a very
nice Corvair with front end damage, the next morning we took his wrecker to
the "farm", picked up
a donor Corvair from a barn, by the end of the day he had traded front end
parts and I think was going
to have it in paint by the following day!
It's good to see younger folks carrying the GMC torch forward!
It was such an incredible design, so far ahead of it's time, hence the great
following!
The very best of luck with your GMC pursuits.

I'm Derek wife's Natalya and we are new to the scene. We are in Atlanta moved from NY about 2 years ago. We recently picked up our GMC from Barry Owens to get a rebuilt engine put into it. I would love to connect to other GA GMC people. I am new to all this and learning as I go. I did give some calls to some of you like Johnny bridges to introduce myself and had some questions. I'll post a video of my GMC in this link. Really glad to be part of this community and can't wait to learn more as I go. I still have my dixielanders sign up sheet sitting in my desk which I should have filled out soon. Feel free to give me a call or text 5167139107

Derek and Natalya,
Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum......
From another refugee from the megopolis of the east coast. You didn't happen to say where NY you left, but that does not matter much. What does matter is that you found your way here. Being a part of the GMC community is an important thing. This is not just for the social inclusion, but this is a very supportive and helping community. If you contact or are contacted by others and they seem too forward, they are not used car salesmen, it is more like you have just met a brand new old friend. Yes, sign up for both Dixielanders and GMC Motorhomes International and watch for rallies in striking range. When you finally get to one (with or without a coach), be very ready, this is not New York.
I wrote my first degree at a college in New York City.... The only part of the east coast I really miss is the good seafood, that is hard to find in Michigan.
This community so much reminds me of the watermen of my world that I like to welcome new owners here much as you might have been welcomed there. So,
May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.
Welcome Derek and Natalya,
Matt

Dave,
Sometime in 2004 Eugene (The owner and admin of the GMC forum) did a complete reset to everything and
so most people show a 2004 start date.
It "appears" that the admins here might have fixed the link problem between the two and we may have the
emailers back. We always could see their postings but they could not see ours. I missed them and if it
is indeed fixed then it is great to see them back.
Update on ToBe. ToBe has a friend now. His name is Roman and is a retired thoroughbred race horse from
Canada. Quebec I believe. He had a cracked in his lower leg and took many months to repair. He is now
rideable and loves to run. He will never race again. He is being trained to be a riding horse and not
to run everywhere. He wants to race every horse he sees.
On ToBe's tendon eventually it got repaired and a few months later he tore it in a different place. He
has been through another 6 months of plasma treatments. Probably next month we hope to be able to turn him loose
in the corral for more exercise and strength building. We may do one more plasma treatment. We are
taking it slower this time. It looks like it is repaired 75 or 80 percent now.
I almost took a trip up your way a couple of months ago but it fell through.
If no one else posts, I will tell you about the other forum next posting. I need too get some sleep.

OK, I am back a day later. The address of the "new" forum is:
https://www.gmcmotorhome.org/ .
Lots of good people there. Some are the same ones as here. If these two systems die,
I expect this is where everyone will go. Unfortunately for emailers there is no email interface.
You do not have to sign up but I suggest that you do. There are some features here that I like
better and some features there that are better. The main thing is there are a good bunch of
friendly GMCers. I have been watching both this one and that one too.
On the second page click on the square that says "new posts". That will get you started.
