Well, somehow, the Transfer Case in the 2004 Chevy Tracker that we tow behind the GMC got left in 4W Low instead of Neutral, and, now the thing won't go in any gear selection. Does anyone have experience with the
Transmission/Transfer Case in one of these? It is otherwise a nice drive/ride and I hate to send it to a scrap yard.

Is is an automatic? If so, was the transmission in park like the manual says? Either way, you probably fried the transmission. If the rotation went all the way through to the engine, that could be damaged as well.
Either way, used drivetrain parts would be the best fix for this.

Don't do that! They are the perfect Toad! Ask one of the local Tracker or Suzuki clubs for advice. The only information I have is that when I wanted to rebuild my 2002 4x4 transmission, no kits were available. If that doesn't work, then offer the Toad for sale. If it is in otherwise decent condition, they are worth a pretty penny!! And in Tennessee, there will be 4x4 clubs for sure...

Call Rod Reyerson at Suzuki Salvage 641 751 2468. He is good with technical help and his website shows Tracker driveline components. He is the one who suggested I remove my rear driveshaft and tow without having to stop every 200 miles. It has been two years since I did that. I disengage the front hubs for towing, and when I drive, they are re-engaged and I just drive in 4WD High. No issues. Good guy. In Marshalltown, IA.

I suppose the proper way to set things would have been to put the Transfer Case in Neutral and then leave the Auto Trans in Park. It would drag wheels then if I had the TC in 4W Low.

That's what the manual says to do with an automatic.
If you towed it with the transfer case in 4-wheel low, and the transmission in neutral, the transmission was spinning at an extra high rate of speed and is almost certainly shot.

I edited the above to say "If you towed it with the transfer case in 4-wheel low".
