I prefer the factory setup. You have instant hot water upon arrival and a more mild electrical draw that even a 15A Edison outlet can support. Should the element fail, just idle the engine for a bit and shower.
Seems like lots of sensors and logic boards to fail on new units and calcium deposits kill them after a few years. I would think sitting with disuse would lead to quicker oxidation. Sorry for the lack of help but simple wins for me.
