Can someone tellme the difference between ATF 4 and ATF+4? The +4 says good for mopar stuff. Is there any difference in the actual oil?

Suppliers are trying not to have too many products to produce.
All about the additives they put in.
New car Mfg demand certain additive package.
From what we know the New ones are safe to use.
More important to change every 20-25,000 miles.

I though ATF branding was wrong type in Turbo Hydramatics. Should be Dex/Merc in today's world of packaging. Readily available as Valvoline Dex/Merc and what I use in older GMs.

Still looking for an answer. JimK's response indicates there might be. The question arises from replacing the leaking pan gasket on a recently rebuilt Mopar 62TE and refilling with fluid. Took three parts houses to find enough atf+4. All wanted to sell me atf 4 instead and claim no difference. Rebuilder said +4 or the warranty is void. Note, the +4 containers are marked 'approved for chrysler and jeep newer transmissions' while the basic 4 is not.

Sorry Johnny I had answered thinking the question was about GMC TZE fluid choice.

Johnny,

I went to Bob Is The Oil Guy's site (my go to site for oil questions of I don't want to bother Ernie) and found a link to this:
https://www.allpar.com/threads/chrysler-automatic-transmission-fluids-7176-atf-3-atf-4.230008/#post-1085224106

Seems to be mostly marketing difference, but the lack of propriety additives would be an easy to test for way to void a warranty. Not that I'm paranoid or anything, but the infuriating trend that computer printer manufacturers have colluded on, where you can't use third party ink cartridges in their printers or need to pay extra to access the "extra" ink that's already in the cartridge, could easily spill over to automotive fluids. Use non-OEM fluids and the Check Engine light comes on.

Your car, your cash, your call.

Richard

I chased down enough +4 to fill it. So far, no leaks. Very hard to find the proper gasket, since from the factory there is no gasket on a 62TE pan. Oregon Performance Transmission had one and sent it. They seemed to stock a fair number of semi - rare transmission parts, Anyone else dealt with them? Hupy?

No, I have not dealt with Oregon Transmission. BUT I DO HAVE A SOURCE. My
go-to specialist is SAM'S TRANSMISSION IN SALEM. He and I are both members
of Willamette Valley Street Rodders. He knows his "stuff" and is a great
guy. He does all my transmission work. Usually turns around a GMC in two
days. He has a good pipeline for parts and hard to find stuff. If you need
more info, P.M. me.
