My flywheel key sheared and allowed the flywheel to spin. It ground out the hub. Does anyone have a flywheel that they could bring to the spring convention?

Emory,
For you as a long time friend in many ways, I'll send one to you via UPS.
I will have our shipping dept determine the cost and that is all we will
charge.

Emery, I have an extra 6k flywheel you can have.
I will be having hand surgery on Thursday (20th) in Denver, so maybe we can
meet up somewhere?

That is fantastic. I had no idea you had a parts Onan. What time is your surgery? Is it a in-out procedure or do you have a hospital stay?

Day surgery, but no time has been set. I do have other parts and pieces that
I took off of an Onan
The Onan that was in the other 76 Palmbeach I had (Rusty) was bad and
I made the swap but kept the add on pieces.
I got the good Onan out of Harold and Betty Kennedy's coach when Corn
Doggie replaced his with a bigger unit.

I definitely want the flywheel. Let me know when you are coming through and we’ll plan to meet. What time do you have to be there for surgery? Can I buy you lunch perhaps at the mall by Hwy 7?

They haven't set a time for the surgery yet, just the day.
Do you remember that I gave you the choke housing for your Onan a couple
of years back.

I have an old Miller Wasp welder with a Kohler single cylinder engine. It
came into my possession because the owner used an pneumatic impact wrench
to attach the crankshaft nut that secured the flywheel taper. Well, it
snapped off the end of the crankshaft leaving no threads to secure it. I
looked at it and figured out that there was enough of a stub protruding
past the flywheel to allow me to mill the end of the crankshaft flat and
drill and tap the end of the crankshaft, which I did. I then used valve
lapping compound on the intersection, and without the key in place, lapped
the flywheel in to the crankshaft to insure a perfect fitting taper. Then I
cleaned up the lapping compound, inserted the key and installed the
flywheel. I then used a grade 8 Allen bolt and a thick washer that fit the
milled flange on the flywheel. I carefully torqued it into place with blue
loctite and it is still holding today.
So, my recommendation to you would be to lap that used flywheel into
your crankshaft before you torque that crank nut. And use hand tools. No
pneumatic wrenches on cast crankshaft, ever.

Jim, do you remember what grit the lapping compound was?
