The Fusible Link IS outside of the wiring harness and I've never heard of
one doing damage. On the other hand, there is within the main cockpit
wiring harness a Nichrome wire used for excitation of the alternator's
field, which can, and HAS caused severe damage to the other wiring in that
harness. Gene Fisher's Alternator Protection Cable (APC) SHOULD be used to
prevent that possibility; it works by preventing high voltage from a
malfunctioning alternator from passing back through that 10.0 Ohm cable.
