A previous owner applied silicone adhesive around the windshield gasket. Does anyone have a good method for removal of the silicone caulk and residue before painting the coach?

Thanks in advance,
Tom K.

Xylol is the only thing I know of that will kill the silicone non-wets for
coatings. We used it by the barrels at 3m to wash down all nearby
equipment when coating with certain solutions.

Tom,
Xylol might do it. I have often used it for things like this, but read the directions and have the correct mask.

silicone is pretty much taboo for the GMC. There are some very minor uses but it is kind of useless, and eventually leaks and is hard to get off.

My coach was siliconed by the previous owner and I more or less had to scrape it off, the parts that were still sticking.
I did use a razor blade at some places to get it off but if the silicone is clear, it will be easy to think you scraped it all off
but it is still there.
they use something called butell I think around the window gasket. Thick black stuff, the window installers use it.
