I have used my macerator for three years now and LOVE IT! I used to close the gate valve each time but forgot it a few times and wondered..... is it necessary to even close it.
My macerator (best thing since sliced bread) has 2 gate valves. One between the black tank and the macerator and one after that is connected to the original large backup dump tube. The former is always open and the later is always closed unless in an emergency (macerator has failed) and we need to dump the old fashioned way. In over 20 years we had one macerator failure and it was nice to be able to dump via the slinky we carry.
