Last time I caulked my GMC I used the most popular and promising caulk that was recommended here.

It lasted a year or so but when I inspected I found that it either shrunk or actually deteriorated away,
exposing seams to weather. Mind you this was touted as the best to get at the time.

I am offered now, another option, called LEXEL

Comes in clear or extreme WHITE, applied with a caulking gun (your own), when cured it is
said to be water proof, extremely durable, uv resistant, won't wear away by weather.

LEXEL is used by some Southern homesteads and they recommend this with no second options. The vids
they show using LEXEL are thorough and to the point. They also talk about results over time which
are impressive.

I'm looking for any others who may have used it.

The link is here:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZA2H2L/ref=twister_B07HFBQNBF?_encoding=UTF8&coliid=I3PU5XW33KJJVJ&colid=2ZMVUPB3MJHH9&th=1

and there are plenty of questions and reviews about the product.
For the most part, the reviews are to the point and informative.

By what they are saying, LEXEL seems to be far ahead of most we have been using.

What say YE

thankyou.

I believe Lexel is used a lot in the air conditioning industry to seal ductwork, etc. It sounds like it should be a good choice for our body seams as well.

Two other clear products that may be similar are “Through the roof” and “Ultima”. About $8 each tube. I used Through the roof between the firewall and “cheeks” as air was coming in. Has held up 10 years but not in UV. So hard to do forward time testing without actually giving it time.

I'd never heard of it before, so this may be a completely worthless
comment: I rely pretty heavily on the "Star" ratings on Amazon -- but I
seldom pay any attention to any except the 1-Star ratings. In this case,
those convince me that I won't be buying any LEXEL. I'll stick with the PL
Urethane caulk I've used for the past 20 years.

I find the 1 star ratings made by people who use a product wrong or can't figure out the directions and write to hear themselves.
On Amazon you have to read ALL the reviews to get a feeling for the product, also the questions help too.

I used the popular sealant at the time when I redid the outside of the GMC but it failed badly. Where I thought I had good seals, I had
sealant missing or worn away by weather. it was supposed to take paint but the paint was all gone from the sealant so much for that. So
I decided to look for a different product. This is not latex so it wont support mold and should hold paint. we will see.

I mentioned a video on yTube that talks STRONGLY for this product. in his words, he has NEVER had a failure on any seals he has made.

I've used almost everything suggested here and they all fell short, esp over time. This LEXEL seems worth a shot when a farmer is using it
and says its the best hes ever used.

Just asking what ya all have tried so yeah.

I use sikaflex in critical areas and other polyurethanes around windows etc. Roof seams and through fixtures got Eternabond.

I have used Lexel clear for dealing around our new LED marker lights, and filling the bolt holes on top of them. After a year, it seems fine… still clear and flexible. Hardly a long-term test, but so far, so good.

Nothing is permanent. A few things are inevitable, like aging, taxes, and
death. But sealants are not on that list.
The top of the GMC, where the end caps meet the aluminum roof are a
classic situation of two dissimilar material with different coefficients of
expansion joined without an expansion joint. So, the sealant that you
select has to perform that job. Some do it better than others. But, if it
says "containes silicone" you are better off not using it. Based on my 40
odd years of trying to keep stuff from leaking here in rainy Oregon.
Far better to build a roof over your coach, but Sikaflex is good
stuff, as is a number of 3M products like 5200.

These two seams are the place for a 2" wide strip of Eternabond in addition to the gipe of choice. They will not leak after THAT treatment.

I have used Lexel for years, it really does hold up.
Just be forewarned, it's as much an adhesive as a sealer, if you
mount something with Lexel IT'S THERE, it will bend or break before
coming off! It really is great stuff in terms of sealing leaks, It will
never
harden and crack, not in my experience. It will harden to some degree after
years of sun exposure but still retain some pliability. It is ideal for
non-visible
areas like a roof top, just make sure you have it right, because you are not
gonna
go back and pull it out and redo it the way you would RTV silicone. It's a
little difficult
to work with, cosmetically that is. With disposable gloves and acetone or
mineral spirits you
can smooth it out and clean up excess with soaked rags. It's still difficult
to make it look good.
I use a Makita cordless caulking gun, not cheap, but it gives excellent
control, no pumping, just
a continuous adjustable flow speed, and when you let off the trigger it
sucks back a little.
