Good morning all. I’ve been lurking here for a few months absorbing as much information as possible. Thank you for providing this wonderful storehouse of knowledge. Three months ago my wife and I bought a 1974 coach in Edmonton, AB. I flew out and drove it home to Niagara about 2500 miles. Had several unplanned stops (large fuel leak, vacuum hose fell off, heater hose failure, dash heat stuck on, multiple exhaust leaks, ...). I was a little naive in trusting the PO when he advertised the coach as needing only fuel to travel across nor5h America.

Somewhat wiser and notably poorer, I’ve fixed many little things and Borrmanns Garage has repaired several large ones (ball joints, wheel bearing, bogie pins, aluminum rad)Last week we went on our first short trip and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. At the end of the month we’re planning to join the Heritage Cruisers in Goderich.

I recently retired. Have a pretty well equipped workshop and fairly extensive experience with a variety of vehicles (Lotus Elan, Lotus Europa, Porsche 928, 1954 Chev Handyman wagon). The last one is my summer daily driver. However, zero experience or knowledge of the GMC Motorhome so there are many things I will be seeking help with.

I can see this is a very helpful and welcoming group. Thanks for the help.

Yes - previous owners/sellers can have quite an imagination when it comes to describing the capabilities of the vehicles they are selling! But your drive home was likely a great crash course in getting familiar with a GMC Motorhome…

And I love the Lotus Europa - always wanted one, but likely never actually will!

Tony,

Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum.....

Given your list of the current rolling stock, there should be very little that you cannot manage. If you are lacking any documentation, it is available for download or get it all on a thumbdrive by joining GMCMI.

Because this is a very supportive and helping community, please do both us and yourself a favor and build a sigfile with your name because this makes things less awkward when you meet others, a short about the coach because they are not all alike and finally a geographic reference because you have just acquire several old friends that you still have to meet. You do this in the control panel at the top right of the screen. Go to <Control Panel/Account Settings> then down to <Preferences> and look right. When you have it filled in, scroll down to <Update>.

If your coach has not been converted to HEI, don't do it now. What you should do is buy the Pertronix 1181LS kit to replace the points in the distributor. This is best done by pulling the distributor out because you need to run wires out the bottom. The best part is that once you get it set, you are never going to have to mess with that again.

If it is HEI, get all the service parts and carry them and the tools to do this job on the road.

This is an unfortunate year. Because of the lockdowns to promote the Wuhan CCP flu, we won't have Canadians at the international this year. Bummer.

None the less, take what advantage you can of what the community offers. It is all offered in good faith and without reservation. As soon as I found out what was going on (during the second week of being an owner), I identified it as being the same sort of close and supportive community as that of the watermen that are my world. To this end, I like to offer the greeting a new owner or vessel will usually get there. So,

May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.
