I have the 76 Birchaven 455 w/ rear bath. What’s the alternator size?
I’m installing solar and am getting a Battery Isolation Manager for the lithium iron coach battery (Battle Born 100AH) - will have two of those with the solar configuration. Just saves your battery from continuous charging of the coach battery. It charges the coach batteries for 15 minutes every 35 minutes.
Is working with Battle Borns 340W Kit.
Almost have all the modifications done - thank you all for your patience. Especially Jim K, Nick B, Jim B, DJ, James H, Bob D - hope I wrote most of your names down - has been a 3-year process and the end is next month!

exciting you are getting close to travel!
the OEM alternator should usually be an 80amp.
I personally don't like the idea of a larger alternator, because at some point you have to modify other things... I hear issues of belt squeal and tossing belts at 100 amps for some(some never seem to have an issue). You can add double pully and different belts, but then you are changing things again. to many changes for my liking. I figure if you need that much power to charge a house battery, just fire up the generator and let a big converter do it's thing, that can have heavy awg wire, ect.. going to the batteries.

Virgil,
The stock alternator for a 455 of that time was 27SI. Unfortunately, the 27SI series comes in two different frame sizes. TZEs used the smaller. The smaller are 80 or 100 amp. Even the stock and more common 80 amp is capable of more and can get close enough to the 100 amp limit of a single belt that for the 23s with the house bank up front and short heavy cable, it can be a problem. This is the belt squeal you may have heard of. This is less of an issue with any 26 because you have the long run to the rear of the coach that acts a current limiter. As your plan includes LiFePo4, you should include a charge controller. These can either be programed or bought to limit the charge current to such that it will not take out the belt after a weekend of dry camping.
