Good Afternoon All,My tilt wheel will not lock in position and all the information I see for this repairs indicates removal of steering column and steering shaft.  Is this mandatory, or can this repair be done inside the coach without removal of the column and shaft?Thank you,Eric

Sir, I have never seen a tilt that would not lock. Does the Tilt have Spring tension on it? The large tilt spring could be broke or probably the housing is busted. To replace the spring is easy, to replace the housing, no so easy as the shaft has to be uncoupled from the upper blue shaft cv joint and removed from the column cause the housing won’t come out over the tilt knuckle joint. This would be a good time to upgrade the column to dimmer on the stalk and replace worn shaft and bearings. Yes you can replace the housing with it in the coach but it is easier on the bench. The pic is Ken Burtons that we replaced in the coach in Alabama at a MHI rally. When replacing the shaft it must go in the correct spline notch to keep the steering box centered. I did the inside stuff and Ken did the under hood stuff and we did it in bout a half day only cause Ken knew what to do to keep it in alignment. I consider it was a world record.. if you git into it and find you don’t want to upgrade and you need a OEM housing or some other part let me know.

Do not believe the "WE" in the above posting. I was an observer and Chuck did 95% of the work...
