Our daughters 76 GMC was on its third trip in 6 weeks. ( Got it in May. ) We were parked next to her. At the start of the Mississippi river state park. I had raised the rear the day before. Found that the bags had been turned on for at least 3 months. And never went down. PO bought it new. And the bags had never been changed. The higher pressure of raising. Was the last straw.
No extra air bags along at all. Got a 4X4 cut to 13.5 inches. ( Thanks, Emery, for the measurement.) Along with 2- 5/16 X 2-inch lag bolts. 31 minutes later. Bag out. 4X4 in. Ready to travel the 276 miles back to the Twin Cities of Minnesota.
Now to the BLAME report. When I had picked the GMC up for her. There were many tots. LOTS of new parts. Including 4 air bags. Only a few years old. By the dates written on them.
As a note.
You need to put those never installed air bags on. Because when they're new. They ARE NOT in their normal operating shape. They want to keep that as bought shape. As I know this all too well. We bought our first 78 Royale in 2003. Had 2 never installed air bags under the bed. Got to thinking about their shape. As stored. Installed them the next day. LEAKED. A LOT.
