I have no ideal why I'm thinking about going to a LSD setup, just want to hear all the goods and bads related to the use of LSD on a GMC. I currently have a 3.7 ratio. Is it a matter of bolting in the differential set up to existing gears or is it shimming set up required. just kicking it around, and like to hear from experience. Thanks,

Skip,
We have a program where we send you a new unit with the LSD and trade your
old 3.70.
Only issue we warn people is, on slippery snow or ice, be carefu not to
spin the wheels as there will be a tendency to slide to the side.
We have sold over 100 LSD units with or gear sets.

On the other hand, since 2000, my GMC has been from Key West, FL to
Fairbanks, AK and LOTS of places in between (including up Manny's STEEP
hill) without ever having a moment's trouble. No, Wait!, one time I got on
a dead end road and tried to make a circle in an unkempt grass field -- SHE
wound up in the CRV toad helping push me back onto the pavement. Sorry for
the bad information! :-)

LSD is great and def worth it is upgrading from 3.07. Not sure the upgrade is worth it if you already have 3.70's
I do know I often spin both wheel in campgrounds so I'm glad I did it

I too have driven that gravel strewn on asphalt hill going to Manny's
place. That last pitch up to his driveway is a real challenge for a GMC.
But, I have driven it several times with no problems in my 78 Royale with
3:70 final drive and a 403 engine.

I think Manny was surprised the first time I made it with my
23'/455ci/3.50:1! :-)
Did he have the service rack (which he copied from mine) finished when you
were there? I haven't seen it -- even the promised pictures; sure would
like to, but at 84 yo, 'tain't likely no more. :-(

Hey, I guess that apology wasn't really complete: By "...without ever
having a moment's trouble" I was referring only to wheel slippage. Didn't
mean to imply that I've had no "adventures"! I've certainly had at least
my share of those! Totaled engine @ 50,049 miles, blown transmission seal,
blown transmission, "exploded" final drive, vapor locks, fuel pump
failures, etc., etc.. But only that one wheel spinner! :---)

I don't think your travels count. 23' coaches from what I now observe cannot be compared to a 26' coach in terms of traction problems. Aaron Evens hit 48 states and documented most of his travels with a 23' coach and there were places his 23' would go and not get stuck that I know for damn sure I would not get to with my 26' coach, and wider AT tires even. Met him up in Glacier National park, in July, and he had been on the road months and only stayed in developed campsites 8 nights at that point.
as far as Limited slip, the only Con's I have ever heard other then cost, would be the theory limited slip would get you in some major sliding and potential steering issues due to sliding on low traction icy roads. However from what I have observed by comments that comes from people that have never driven or owned this limited slip, and are basing those comments on that theory. I have seem comments from a few that they have not had an issue when they have been on some of those situations.
adding a limited slip to an already re-geared final drive, seems very reasonable. I do believe it takes a total teardown, and they don't just send you the actual limited slip to install yourself. You have to have the entire final drive sent in and returned to you with the limited slip.
