It's looking like this may have been caused by an inferior bearing...

However, for the sake of argument, assuming it is not a cheap bearing, you could also look at the alignment of the alternator pulley... If the alternator bracket was cracked or bent in some way canting the alternator out of plane with the rest of the pulleys, the side load from the misalignment could burn up a bearing...
