I have an onan Emerald 6500 in my exRoyale, not sure if the compartment was modified or not.

the mufler is a Bitch and a half to get on/off, it's inside the frame rail and up high.
the gen cann not be removed with the muffler on
The rear spark plug can not be accessed with the gen in place

Other than that it's a great genset

If you know what to do and have the Mandrel bent tubs, you don't end up
with something that cannot be maintained.

They always take the easy way as it costs them less.
Being a Cummin Onan dealer we get advice and avoid possible problems.
There are things I dictate how it will be.

Thank you for the information everyone. After a few measurements I have realized that the generators I wanna put in there will not fit into the slide so I must repair my own generator. I am putting in solar but will still need a generator after many cloudy days

I’ve been told that these old 6kw gensets can be very reliable. Toss the Pertronics kit on and the ignition is rock steady.

The new Cummins Onan Generators are quiet and vibration free and very
dependable.
Yes, I still run the original in my two coaches,

Gene,

You added propane to your Onan some time ago. How is it working out?

To my way of thinking it must run cleaner (no more head carbon cleaning needed), lifetime spark plugs(?), less stink, instant start (with Pertronix), and yet another thing to brag about at rallies!

Then again mine runs just fine on gasoline and still off of the points.

Good News after looking around the forum for information and pictures. I came across a picture with a field coil with a partly connected rectifier that showed me what I needed to know. My generator is back to putting out power now
