Gentlemen,
I am installing the crank oil seal behind the hormonic balancer. The book states to use the J-5154-01 tool to set the seal at .005 from the bottom of the tool. I do not have the special tool.
Is there a field method to set the seal to the desired depth, or is there a measurement from the exterior surface in which the seal should be set?
Thanks again,
Tom

Matt,
I was skeptical about the 8,000 miles also, but after removing the nylon gears I am positive the mileage is accurate. The gears look brand new. They are still 43 years old and most likely brittle so I am glad I am replacing them.
With regard to the oil seal, would you hold the seal flush to the interior of the cover, the exterior or in the middle?
Thanks again,
Tom

Matt,
I held the seal to the front of the cover as the balancer had no indication of wear as you stated. I was just trying to get the seal in the most advantages location. I wiped assembly lube for the startup. I will keep my fingers crossed for no oil leaks.
Thank you and Jim again,
Tom
