Guys,
I serviced the Steering lower shaft CV Joint and accidentally dropped the bearings out of the bottom. I sat for a half hour rotating the inner sprocket and reinstalling the bearings until I got a smooth operation while swiveling the CV joint. I greased the joint up with Valvoline Full Synthetic Moly grease as directed and now I need to secure the new boot.
Using a "Band It" tool and 1/4" straps to secure the steering shaft boot, what torque should be applied to this small boot and should I double band?
Thanks,
Tom

Tom,
I ALWAYS double Band-It because a single wrap tends to bunch up the
underlying material without the smooth sliding surface of the first layer.
As for torque? Tight. At least until the underlying rubber begins to
bulge a bit.

Tom,
I did mine last week, and ditto to what Ken H stated. Although the previous boot had a nylon zip-tie on it. And it was still holding!
I was going to use the Doorman boot, but l heard good things about the Flexx Boot FB3000, so that’s what I went with. It is a silicone boot.
But we will see.....
Scott.

Scott,
I didn't know there was a silicone option. I would have done the same. Please keep me posted down the road.
Patrick, I saw that also and also saw a post for 20 inch pounds. I did go with kens recommendation of depressing the rubber, but not to the point of damage. Thank you for the additional info as my axles are next.
Thanks again guys, take care and have a great evening.

Patrick,
Very nice write-up, which I'd forgotten about. It's been quite a few
years since I had to pack an axle joint. Thank goodness!
It's good to hear from you; we see you too seldom.

Tom,
It's been a while, but IIRC the 65 inch pounds was from the GMC service
manual.
