Denial- there has to be something better than the stock engine and transmission.

Anger- you old guys are stupid, I WILL DO AN LS SWAP

Bargaining- maybe if i gave up a lot of interior space i could add a transfer case and a Dana 60 front axle mated to a 454.

Depression - this sucks, i hate having an old engine and no overdrive

Acceptance- ultimately, the 455 and TH425 is really the best solution for this great coach. I can always add EFI.

Dave,

Since you obviously need a viable alternative to the 455, consider the
Cadillac 500. Could hardly be an easier swap: Drill new holes for
the front engine mount (or copy mine), bolt to your TH425, and cobble up an
exhaust system. Maybe add EFI. Voila! Ready to run with us big boys!

No i certainly don't need anything, I have Birch with a 455 and i can do math.

But haven't we been seeing this conversation for years? I posted this on facebook after someone offered yet another non-workable alternative to the TH425.

I would also say the 472 Cadillac, the predecessor to the later emissions-choked 500, would be an excellent swap. Rock solid, and 375HP with 525ft-lbs of torque. A monster, and inexpensive. Commonly found complete with the TH425 in 68/69 Eldorados.

Was reading something about an east coaster who wasn't an RV er, and from
the sounds of it, will probably never be one.
He rented a Sprinter Van for the weekend for $1700.00 and took off
unprepared. Ran out of potable water, overflowed the holding tank. Ran the
batteries flat, froze his butt off. He didn't have a good time, to say the
least. Don't know the guy, but am familiar with his type. He went through
all 5 stages and wound up dissatisfied and disappointed. Self induced.
Glad it was a Sprinter, and not a GMC. He laid all the blame on the RV.
Guess he never looked in the mirror for who to blame.

Yes, there is quite a bit of bad information and BS going on over there at Facebook. There was even a guy (formerly on this forum) that said he quit the GMC Net due to the "blatant racism", of all things, on this site.

Now that one REALLY baffles me. During 23 years here, I can't, for the
life of me, think of a single incident that could, by any stretch of the
imagination, be interpreted that way. Maybe it's my born & bred in the
deep South persona that's insensitive? I hope not. But I do believe that
the current fad of identifying "racism" has become totally absurd.

I was actually wondering why the 4T80-E isn't suitable? Can't handle the weight and torque?

Blatant Racism???? Where in the heck did they come up with that? Flag
wavers? Gun rights supporters? Patriots? Constitutional supporters? God
fearing?? I plead guilty to all of those. But racist? I don't think so. Not
at all the rallies I have attended have I ever heard even the slightest bit
of that. Maybe it is like the "new math". But, like Bob Dylan wrote in

I cant say that all :
Flag wavers? Gun rights supporters? Patriots? Constitutional supporters? God
fearing??

Are racist.

But all racists are:

Flag wavers? Gun rights supporters? Patriots? Constitutional supporters? God
fearing??

At least they all claim to be but most have no idea what that means.

My take on that like it or leave it.

Out.

I think I almost started this, so it's probably my responsibility to say
this "racist" discussion has gone on too long for GMCNet.

Begone foul words!
