vin A26000I am thinking of pulling a trailer to get more beds.
What is the max tongue weight and trailer weight is comfortable to tow?
What about considerations at campgrounds?
Are there some gotchas to doing what I am thinking about?

John,

Big First Question: Is the automatic rear suspension fully operational?
Second question: How Big (Heavy) a trailer?

In California, any camp trailer over 1500# must have brakes. You will need to add a brake controller. There is probably a wire in the coach harness for this already. Finding the front end is the trick.

My coach is a 23, but I have had about 400# on a hitch basket and it was no issue.
Owners two all kinds of things with these coaches.

Keep planning and hope someone with better numbers comes to answer you.

Matt

Most modern campground gave lots of rules. One of them usually is one camper per site.

I have a friend with a scamp, and they wont let us park the gmc and scamp on same site usually even when we pay for 2. And my gmc and a scamp in length is usually shorter then most rigs in the campground.

We towed an enclosed trailer with a Harley in it plus a bunch of other stuff, total weight was about 3,500 lbs with no problems. Sent from my U.S.Cellular© Smartphone

It depends on where you are going.
Road load at 60MPH added by the trailer is not that great on the flats. Add grades up and down and all that changes quickly. Definitely get a brake controller and trailer brakes. The trailer coming around to meet the GMC can happen in a blink in an emergency situation with no trailer brakes. Driver skill and use of gears is also important

I regularly tow a car trailer with my Jeep on it from Tucson to the Imperial Sand Dunes (a relatively flat 260 mile, each way, trip) without issue. I estimate that the loaded trailer weighs about 4,000# and I set my tongue weight at around 400#.

I have a good frame mounted through the bumper hitch, an electric brake controller, a 30,000 # transmission cooler, and a 3.70 LSD final Drive. I towed it a few times with the stock 3.07 final without issue as well, but the lower gears help.

You'll definitely want to make sure you have operational brakes on the trailer.
