Had to replace a Michelin LTX 225 75 r16 at discount tire today and was informed that Michelin has discontinued the LTX in this size. But they still make them in other sizes.
The ONLY tire Michelin has in this size is the “Agilis”. The only info I can get on this new tire is that it is more of a commercial tire. And appears to have a deeper tread.
Anyone with more info?

I don't know from Michelins, but just bought 7 Kumho Crugen HT51 225/75/R16 112-115 (E rated) tires @ blackcircles - Maybe a good or better choice if your fave shoes are not made anymore?

I am “Michelin LTX only” when it comes to my light duty fleet trucks. As far as I can tell the agilis is intended to be a direct replacement or upgrade for the LTX. It is a load range E tire in our 16” GMC size. You will recall the LTX, LTXMS2, LTX defender, seems like Michelin has a hard time grasping the concept of consistent branding. Now they’ve dropped LTX altogether and gone to agilis. If I send my trucks to discount tire or the sort they will tell me that the LTX are not available anymore. But if I go to one of the local tire shops they can still get them from the local wholesalers. On my fleet trucks we run them out in about three years so I don’t worry about the dates. But I suspect I’ll be forced to go to agilis sometime in the next year. As long as I continue getting 80,000-plus miles out of them I’ll be sticking with Michelin for fleet use. But I’m glad that Ken Henderson and others are trying other brands on their GMCs and posting results. It’s good information for us to have.

I just took a moment to chat about the new Agilis tire with Ronda at Michelin's Consumer Care department (you can do so by text message these days).
I asked her specifically what would is the maximum service age of this tire, based on age alone, before it should be "aged out" and replaced. Her answer was "10 years is the Maximum life of a Michelin Tire".
The warranty incidentally is 6 years, but is probably better than having to change them out every 5 years.
I hope I didn't kick a hornet's nest here by asking that question, but thought I would share their answer.

I ended up buying 2 of the Michelin agilis tires today from Discount tire(because I rotate out from the front to the rear and replacing 2 at a time). The price was $140 per tire, everting included. A couple things that I have noticed are the tread is much deeper than the LTX(at least compared to my spare that has never seen the road), completely different tread design, and there is no mileage guarantee on the Agilis. But I’m sure the tire will time out before 75,000 miles!
I read the brochure that Ken H posted. It states you’ll get about 25,000 miles out of these with a heavy truck till the tires wear out.... that seems awfully low..
Maybe Walmart is now the way to go..

That has been Michelin's stand for years. Replace after 10 years even if it checks out and looks good. If you to file a warranty claim they will only process them if the tire is under 6 years. Look on their web site in the RV section. Most other brands have similar standards.

Defender LTX M/S is still there plain as day on main Michelin web page. I guess they need to update. I went with Cooper HT3 which has a similar to LTX tread pattern at about half the cost. So far (3 years) run perfectly

John: I believe they still make the LTX... Just not in our size....
Scott: There are 2 versions of the Agilis... One with a directional tread, and one without... I believe the "commercial traction" tires are the directionals...
Interested in your impressions once you get some miles under your belt...

I will definitely get back with a tire update. I don’t know how accurate it will be because I only replaced the front tires. The 4 rears are the old LTX’s. Also, the only tread pattern that Discount tire had on the Agilis available on the 225/75/r16 are the LT metric(non directional). Not the C metric(directional). But they do show a 225/75/r16c, my local Discount tire could not order that one. For what it’s worth, they are stamped “made in the USA” on the side.
And yes, they still make the LTX’s. But not in the 225/75/r16.

That was not my experience with the FMCA program.
When looking for my favorite tire, the BF Goodrich Commercial T/A for my GMC, I found the FMCA program to be higher priced than what I could get locally at Costco or Discount Tire. FMCA might be a better deal than those stores for Michelins. Sadly, I didn't find it true for Goodrich.

I have a Canadian customer who went through all the hoops on the
B.F.Goodrich tire deal through FMCA a few years back. I had his coach for
some repairs, sold him a set of 7 Eagle alloy wheels with the correct
center hole size. Took the wheels to Superior Tire in Salem, Oregon and
they had the FMCA rebate deal. Saved him about $650.00 US dollars. You can
do the math in Canadian money. A significant savings to be sure. Don't know
if that deal still exists today. Have not checked in a while.
Reason why I never checked with Walmart? Used to have a retail flower
shop with my wife. Walmart moved into our community, and within 3 years,
two retail grocery stores, a photo lab, a Tru-Value store and another bunch
of main street retail businesses, who supported the community, folded their
tents and moved out or went belly up. Multiply those business losses across
the USA and America will never recover from their predatory practices. You
are free to shop where you wish.

Before the border closed I used to buy all my tires from Tire Rack and ship them to my installer in Seattle - do any of you guys in the States buy tires from them? I always had good dealings with them.
As the shipping charge to Canada was a bit more than I could deal with, I bought the new tires for my Palm Beach from a Canadian drop-shipper based in Quebec, Blackcircles.ca ...funny story though, because I'd ordered 7, I guess they thought that was such an odd number that they called me the following morning to confirm. We got it sorted out when I let them know the coach needed 6 and then there's the spare ...anyway, was impressed they called to make sure the order was OK.
About an hour later, they called again! They'd checked the shipping address on Google street view and asked me if I knew that address was a CHURCH. I said, yes, that's right, it is (was) a church but not any longer so definitely ship the tires there.
So I'm well impressed with the company so far, considering I ordered online it's pretty nice to get two personal phone calls to make sure everything was OK. Price was pretty fair too, best price I could find on the tires I wanted.

I bought many tires from “The Rack” tirerack.com including LTX, but found better prices on Amazon last 2 times I bought Radial TAs. If you are in midwest you can’t beat Blain’s Farm and Fleet when they run Cooper sales. Buy 3 get one free (or take of 25% each tire for us 6 or 7 buyers) and a bonus $70 prepaid Visa card mailed to you.
