Rea,
I had one go bad in the signal stalk. There is no way to disassemble and clean it. You have to pull the steering wheel and the locking place to replace it. If you try, be sure to use the wire to pull a messenger sting into the column to get the new one back in.
I am not sure a replacement is available except as a take out of someone's parts coach unless JimK (aka Nick) has one.
If you know of anybody that has upgraded to a better cruise, there might be one available.

Start with connectors plugged in and clean at transducer and brake switch. Check vacuum hose routing and replace as needed. To unit and to pedal switch. Reset cruise switch cancel setting at brake pedal by hand sliding the switch towards the pedal, then pulling up by hand on pedal to automaticity ratchet to self recalibration. Inspect ball chain to throttle. There should be a touch of slack when throttle is closed. Read owners manual as these don’t operate quite like today’s units.

Here is an off the wall problem I have found on a couple of these that won't engage or intermittently drop out after engagement. The CC unit is mounted to the body of the coach just behind the hatch cover. The CC unit is powered by the engine 12 volt power system but when they mounted the unit it was grounded to the body which is the house 12 volt ground. So the return ground path has to go through couple of jumpers on the back of the trans and another from the body to the frame. After 40 years they deteriorate and then there is no return path back to the engine ground.
The easy way to check and fix this is to disconnect the ground wire on the CC unit. Attach that wire to about a 2 foot new piece of wire. Then attach the other end of the new wire to any bolt on the engine just below the CC unit.

There are no guarantys that moving of the ground will fix your problem. It is just I have seen a few with that failure. It could just as likely be some of the other suggestions posted here.

I have an NOS Cruise/Signal lever available. I will post a pic & price later today if interested - just let me know. I am moving forward with an upgraded column that has a cruise/wiper multi switch & tilt/telescopic.
