I put an Omistor Awning on a '73-23' Glacier way back when. Coach is now
owned by Bob in Las Vegas. He follows this forum and maybe will post a
picture. I loved the simplicity and the no legs down the side. And I mostly
put the legs vertical when the awning was deployed, not back to the coach,
so they were out of the way to use the door. Especially nice on a 23' with
the door just behind the cab.

Does not take very much wind to do it, either. Depends upon wind direction,
strength, etc. Even the Zip-Dee can be damaged by it. Best to retract it
when you are not using it. But, if you insist upon leaving it deployed, use
long tent stakes and stout hold down lanyards out about 30° to 45° on the
side farthest from the coach. But, even those countermeasures might not be
sufficient in gusty winds.

Not only wind but rain as well. I once left my zipper extended on a sunny day while camping. We took the toad to town and when we returned we found there had been a hard rain. My arms were badly bent and the awning had about a 55 gal drum of water in it. That is about 500 pounds. The fabric was fine but the outer roller was bent and the arms were ruined. One bracket at the end of the roll was broken. I got the parts from Zipdee but they were about 400 or 500 dollars. I picked them up at their factory by O’Hare airport
Still a lot cheaper than a new awning.
That is when I saw their new electric awning with no arms. If I recall it was about $5000 or 6000 to fit a GMC.

What we learned is to lower front or rear so water will not puddle on the
middle.
We try to stock most of the ZipDee parts for when accidents happen.

For all those newbies who are seeing/hearing these tales of woe for the
first time: Camping World and other RV dealers sell awning supports which
can easily prevent the potential for water damage:
bit.ly/3clNOGK
or
https://www.rvupgradestore.com/Solera-362238-Awnbrella-Awning-Support-Kit-p/90-1832.htm?gclid=Cj0KCQiAx9mABhD0ARIsAEfpavQQxv8-OFS3jKT4iDa5sch9zHwRfSnY I4_NAELQ9GqvJ2Q3eGnh7DUaAqieEALw_wcB
I've always used a pair of those with my Omnistor, making a "rain and wind
proof" awning when the aft end of the awning is lowered slightly and both
outer corners securely tied down to auger stakes or other secure points.
The support arches do permanently stretch the awning fabric, making it
unsightly when they're not installed -- which lasts about 5 minutes per
cycle. :-)
