Hello all,

I have a small leak in my graywater tank that has been patched by a PO
and is now leaking.

I wonder what the tank is made of? Is it ABS that will respond to a
fiberglass and ABS cement patch or is it something else ?

I didn't find much of relevance trying to search the archives. I have
just replaced the black tank and would rather patch the graywater one
instead of replacing it if that is a viable option.

Thanks !

Stu

The black and if you have a gray water tank are ABS (Black) and are not fiberglass. The best way I have found to repair the ABS tank is to get a short piece of ABS pipe (I suggest a 4 or 6 inch) and shred a part of it. You can then make a paste/glue by adding ABC cement/Acetone and mixing to a paste. If you need a flat piece of ABS you can cut a section out of the ABS pipe heat it with a heat source to make it soft and put something heavy to flatten it and let it cool. Clean the area with Acetone and if necessary grind a groove in the crack and drill small holes at either end, this will stop the crack from expanding.

Abs plastic will accept almost any kind of adhesive patch you just have to
make sure it is very clean and dry. The easiest patch I have come across
using readily available materials is abs glue and fiberglass mat. The mat
works way better than mesh.
