Does anyone have experience taking the removing and/or replacing the Avion shower module? Any information regarding how to disassemble the curved Avion cabinet that holds the shower module and where to get a replacement module would be helpful. Thank you

My Avion is a GMC. It should not be banned. The curved shower wall is a
special part of the Avion. I do not know how you would try to get it out of
there without cutting it up.

A previous owner removed the galley, including the sink plumbing, that I believe extended from the rear of the shower area. In order to re-install the sink and its plumbing, I need to get behind the shower. I have looked everywhere for pictures or other information on how to disassemble the cabinet and/or the shower module but I have found nothing. It’s hard for me to imagine that I am the first to have to address this issue. Thanks for the comment, I may have to cut it out

Rc (whoever you are).

You might try to raise Rob Mueller. I believe he is still in OZ. He has two of them and has done a lot with both.

Matt, I assure you that I am not trying to be mysterious. My name is Robert Cowan. You can see by my registration date that I am new to the forum and new to the GMC community. I bought my 1975 GMC Avion in June of 2020. i am still figuring out how to navigate the forums

Also, thank you for reaching out to Mr. Mueller. It sounds like he might be a wealth of information for me. Any advice on how I may reach him? Or perhaps he’d be willing to reply on this forum?

I believe the water supply for the galley sink extend from behind the shower module, before it was removed by a previous owner. I need to get back there because I want to reconnect the water supply

I have his email address and have been in occasional contact with him. If you want, I can contact him and ask if it is OK to give out his email to you. I don't see it as a problem, but as a courtesy, I would prefer to do it that way.

Welcome RC!

One thing not quickly evident to a new user is the "signature" feature of this forum. You have helpful info about yourself in the profile when you signed up. When you have a little time, go to <Control Panel/Account Settings> and then click on preferences. Find the place to fill in a sigfile. This little bit of info will show up on all your posts in the forums. General location and the year and model of your coach steer folks in the right direction for responses.

Curiosity for me - did you just get your coach, or are you just getting into rehab?

Robert,

Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum....

I was not trying to be at all unfriendly, we just don't do that here. In fact, some have been scared by the forwardness of this community. The thing is, for us to be careful and reserved would serve no purpose at all. Most that write here do so because they have a problem. If there is a problem, they need an answer and that answer is better sooner than later. We specialize in good advice. Much of it comes from members with many tens (some hundreds) of thousands of miles and decades of experience base to draw on.

Please do both yourself and us the favor of filling in some sigfile as Tyler suggested. The only things he forgot was first, It should have a real name because we will help but we like to know who it is we are helping. Then a short about the coach, you side it is an Avion upfit, but a year is nice and might matter because there were changes all along the way. Lastly but not leastly(?) a geographic reference is good. What you may not appreciate is that you just now collected a couple of thousand brand new old friends. There may be one in striking range that can be of immediate assistance. There is nothing like a native guide. One important thing that Tyler left out was that when you have filled that box in (it is easy to clean it up later, if you so chose), be sure to keep scrolling down to the "Update" key and poke that so it gets saved.

A short side note here: There is another forum that is also good. It is newer and younger in all ways. There are also multiple groups on the social media sites. Many that write there are not well versed in what makes a TZE/GMC so different and some advice is even dangerous.

What you should also realize right away is that everybody that writes here has it in mind to see to it that you get to both enjoy the coach itself, but also what she can do for you. We all know. If this is your first real traveling RV, you are in for a very pleasant time. We want that for you.

This is a community that is supportive and helping on an amazing scale. When you do get to travel, be sure to carry a copy of the GMC Assist list (aka Black list name for the originator), and if you need help on the road, use it and hang on tight. The level of support that we can bring to bear is awesome. All that said, when I found these people, in about 5 minutes, I knew exactly what to expect. This is so much like the community of my own home world that it was comforting. for this reason I have taken to welcoming new people here much like you might be there. So,

May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.

Welcome Robert

Matt

Robert,

Welcome aboard.

TZE is the prefix on all GMC MH serial numbers (which you should find on an

TZE provides physical identification or your special GMC. First 2 numbers indicate year of manufacture. I don't remember the rest of the numbers' significance, but you can find it in the forum, somewhere. All Avions are 1975. Avion GMCs were very expensive, adding about $8k plus to the base price.
I've owned 2, Rob has had 3 or 4. You could also check with C.Boyd, he has extensive experience with dis-assembling and re-assembling GMC's.

Robert,
Let me say that you do NOT have to take the wood surround off the front of the bath module and you do NOT have to take the bath module out. That would be bad as you would most likely break thing the cannot be replaced and you don’t want that. Just need to run new lines behind the bath module from bath sink to Kit sink. I recommend using PEX tubing and you can use the shark tooth fittings for the short run.

I just we out and looked in the Avion that I have in the shop which is in various stages of restoration. I have taken a bunch of pictures on where the Copper water lines are located and how to get from front to back! And yes copper tubing was use in some of the units.

The pictures are in reverse order and be sure to read the captions under the pics!

Do you have a copy of the “Operations and Service Manual”?

You can get one here: http://www.bdub.net/manuals/avion.pdf

You can download and print out.

Robert,

I don't know if it was there before, but now the header (visible only to those that read this as forum) says San Francisco. I hope you do know that the major supplier of GMC parts, accessories and service is just across the bay in Newark??

The number isn't handy to me because I usually send email in the morning. Jim Kanomata runs the place and he has a guy working there (Nick) that seems to have the parts catalog memorized. His prices are competitive. But those of us that are several thousand miles away have to pay for shipping....

G'day, I've read this entire thread and it appears J.R. Wright has provided all the info you need to replace the galley kitchen and bathroom plumbing without removing the shower. I removed the shower module in the GMC I have in Sydney and it was a lot of work and not easy.
