I am doing an update on the interior of my 75 GMC and moving
some of the 110 V wiring around. Where the wire goes through
the aluminum ribs there are plastic grommets to keep the romex
from chafing on the aluminum.

My question is does anybody know what size the grommet is and
where I can get some. They are made out of a hard plastic.

The 1/2" ones that you get from HD for electrical box knockout
are too big.

Also where to get the receptacle box they use in the coach. Perfect
size made out of a dark brown phenolic material.

Thanks,
Bob

Get the inserts that go into the end of armored cable. The little red ones. We call them cherries. They are not hard plastic but are slit and will fold around the wire to slip into the hole. They are readily available and if you get the larger sizes they collapse around and overlap to completely cover the wire or cable.

I went through the same thing years ago. They are a metric size. Found a
source and bought a big bag of them. Ping me again if I haven’t returned to
the thread today. Since they fit nothing else they are yours for the price
of postage if they still live where I think I left them.

Bob,
I doubt those phenolic boxes are still made. Google mobile home outlet box and you should find some shallow boxes. Some of them are a combo receptacle and old work outlet box with the flip out wings to secure them in place.

I just went digging and unfortunately I’m pretty sure they got purged.
Ironic as I had to buyer a bag of like 150 and only used about 10 of them.
Didn’t want to huck them but they only good for GMC an I no longer have
one.

Bob,
Go online to some of the extra rv supply houses in Elkhart, IN. Some of them have LOTS of those phenolic boxes, brown and white. Last time I got a cople, they were $.50 ea.

Thanks for the impetus to investigate a little bit more, John. I thought phenolic boxes went out with polybutylene plumbing, but they're still available new. Carlon is one manufacturer of phenolic boxes, and polycarbonate boxes are also available.

I'm not sure what advantages phenolic offers over the blue plastic boxes, other than stiffness, and the grey plastic boxes are as stiff and seem to have the same specifications as the phenolic.

In any event, shallow boxes like those necessary for RVs are available in all box materials.

Thanks to all for their help and input.

The red cherries work great and are easy to install.

Found some 2" deep blue boxes with the outer mounting lip that will work.
A bit narrow but will use them at the end of a run so only one
set of wires will be used.

Had to go to 3 big box stores before I found them as their inventory
system does not work well and the first 2 stores were out of stock.

Thanks again to all for the help.

Be sure to glue those insulating bushing in place. They are designed for stationary use. As for 'Big Box' stores, be careful as they have very few items that belong in your coach. Be especially careful with items that could burn, the flamability requirements are very different for house use vs motorhome use.
