This is going to get interesting.

I’ve done 90 in mine. I was not going after anything at that speed. I didn’t have cruise, it was flat pavement and a windless beautiful day, and then I noticed the speedometer was buried. I looked at the GPS before lifting, and it was reporting 90.

There seemed to be a bit more in there, but I was not about to try it then.

I have buried the speedometer on numerous occasions. Mine has a 90 mph
clock. Never checked that to be precisely correct. Next time I try, I will
check it with a GPS. It still had some left in it.

Nope, mine will not accelerate that quickly, except maybe downhill. A steep

Like any of you to get to 100mph in one mile.
Yes, My Royal with 540 Twin Turbo can go 100 in one mile.

Fist of all, I do appreciate being reminded that GMC held MH land speed record for 40 years. That is truly a good perspective and something to be proud of.

Second, while the new record holder may contain a bed, I would not call it a Motorhome. The most optimistic description of it is a camper van.

Thirdly, it appears that there is no requirement for the vehicle to maintain original power plant in order to attempt the record. The VW had an engine and a turbo that did not come with it initially.
There are many engines out there that can provide enough power to move a 26' GMC at appropriate speed to attempt the record, but the difficulty seem to be transferring all that power from the engine to the ground, i.e. transmission capability at high speed and with all that power.
With that I'd say - all is fair in love and war... What if we skip 455/TH combination and put in a jet engine in the back. We definitely got enough space for that and you don't have to worry about transmission coming up on its limits. We can leave a kitchen and a bed up in front to make sure it is still a more comfortable Motorhome that the sad little VW...

Was reading the other day Rocket Racing has a compacted graphite iron block casting available...

In addition to the CGI, it's supposed to be strengthened in the known weak areas of the Olds block...

https://www.enginelabs.com/engine-tech/big-block-olds-lives-rocket-racings-killer-casting/

Yes you could swap out the motor for something else, but to me it would be a point of pride to set a record using what came with the vehicle as made....
