'Similar experience... have owned current and only GMCMh since 1993. 'Have
never bought towing/roadside service policies on motorhomes and other owned
vehicles. 'Have never required towing on any... 'Just two roadside outages
with GMCMh: (1) a failed alternator drive belt (due to faulty new belt - 30
min. replacement with spare/roadside I40 in TN) (2) a failed Goodyear G159
tire (tread separation/intermediate wheel/pass side - due to roofing
tack/loss of inflation/overheating -45 min. replacement with spare,
roadside/state highway in TX).

To buy down risk of roadside outages, 'recommend:

(1) staying current on all specified maintenance - absolutely essential!
(2) pre-trip checkout of all mechanical and electrical systems (about 30
minutes)
(3) do a short pre-trip road test, minimum 5 miles ( if not used in prior 3
months)
(4) during trip, prior to start of each day, do a ten minute
"walk-around"/fluids check/underbody inspection with very bright
light//"hammer" test for tire inflation, etc.
(5) at each fuel/other stop while fueling, walk-around vehicle, check
tire/hub temperatures with laser thermometer, etc.
(6) during trip, note all items requiring attention but not critical to
vehicle operation - and FIX IMMEDIATELY upon return home
(7) do a thorough post-trip checkout of all mechanical and electrical
systems, perform any maintenance due and make repairs as needed - all
IMMEDIATELY upon return home.

I've had my GMC mortorhome i think since 1989. I have never had additional
towing/roadside service policies on it. I have been towed twice. The first
time, I had a master cylinder failure on south bound Interstate 5 just
south of Seattle Center. I was towed to a GMC dealership in Tacoma, about
30 miles or so. I paid out of my pocket. Don't remember exact amount, but
with basic hook up fees plus mileage, it was less than $200.00.
The second time was a couple of years ago, I had a water pump bearing
fail. It also was a short tow. 8 - 10 miles. With hook up fees and mileage,
it was $250.00.
During all those years since 1989, I have paid $0.00 in premium costs.
I am way ahead on this deal. Your experience will vary.
