I just bought a sight unseen coach in Phoenix and plan to pick it up
tomorrow, Sunday. "Plan" to leave Monday for the SF Bay area via 10 to Palm
Springs and then up 101 to Fremont in NorCal to avoid the heat. Dash air on
a 73 is bad, even if it did work. Unknown generator and roof ac.
Road trip. What could be more fun! Coach has put on 70 miles in the last 5
years, I am told.
The fun is in the journey, not the destination.
It's a 1973, 26' all white. Don't know what model that is.

Sounds crazy !!
How are the tires?
Are the brakes good?
You should have it towed -
Yeah, i am totally kidding. If i lived anywhere near the west coast i would ask to join you.
It baffles me how people (on other groups) buy old machines and have no interest in adventure.
"it needs tires and brakes but i can have it hauled to my house for $1500" -
Yeah, or, for $1500 you could get those things fixed and drive it.
I think people have an irrational fear of going on a trip in a vehicle that might break down.

When you drive a coach you have not worked on or had someone that cared,
there will bew some issues.
We have many people that drop off the coach and have us go over the
essentials , then head accreoo the country with little or no problems.

Hey Guys (and Gals):
Just want you to know there are those of us who are not mechanics who drive these rigs w/ a phone, a Blacklist, and a prayer!
I have been driving my coach(s) for 8 years including at least 3 cross country trips per year. Had one overnite delay w/ a failed water pump - rescued by a blacklister, one continuous 16 hr run for home w/ an electrical problem (never shut her down once got her jumped using 5 batteries), and one convention trip cancelled due to broken wire deep in the distributor!
The solution to not being a mechanic (in my opinion) is impeccable maintenance and faith in your rig once brought up to cross country readiness!
Have owned 5 of these darlings in 8 years (now down to 3) and enjoyed each and every one of them.

76 Glenbrook Clasco 28’ (2’ stretch at the rear) - cross country ready.

I think people have an irrational fear of going on a trip in a vehicle that might break down.
The definition of irrational varies with the person and situation, as does the definition of fear. Driving a newly purchased 45 year old experimental* vehicle 1000 miles without a thorough going over (rear wheel bearings, brake lines, compression test, etc) requires a leap of faith. I won't ask for a show of hands of how many people here know of someone who lunched an engine/transmission, had a blow out take out a T-skirt and damage the body panel, etc, bringing a GMC home because it was only {insert seemingly reasonable number here}.
It's a risk - perhaps not risking your life but certainly risking your dollars. So it's not an irrational fear, it's an assumed risk.

I think if I were that scared I would sell my rig
Maybe that's why the seller sold it?
And maybe he knew something the buyer didn't?
In any event, to each his own, and wishing the OP a safe, uneventful and pleasant journey.
Richard
* The GMC Motorhome was an experiment for GMC Truck Division, and it's guaranteed that POs experimented on it as well.
