Anyone ever have the stove top re-chromed? How did it turn out etc.....ours is pitted and has a bit of rust checking....

Never thought about getting it powder coated...ill have to mention it to the wife and see what she thinks....i like the idea as long as it has that chromish finish that matches the overhead oven, the vent hood etc it will be good.

I think my PO simply polished mine. Looks very chromey.

I thought powder coat ovens run in the 300sF range to melt the powder? How’s that gonna work where the grates touch the surface?

Spending loads of money on an old cooktop/stovetop is not your friend. Re-chroming cost can be several times the cost of a new modern replacement unit. The 4 burner units are basically useless (IMHO). First coach was a 77 Eleganza II with 4 burner cooktop and oven. We NEVER used all the burners as there was not that much space to put much on the top and you did’t carry that much in the way of cooking pots. We cook in our coach because we do winter in FLA. for 3 months. What you’re really lacking is counter top space! What we did was install a new countertop and then a new 2-burner cooktop, new vent fan and a convection microwave (Sharp Model 820BK). We gained counter top space and more storage storage where the oven was at. The Convection Micro will do the regular stuff plus bake. Notice the location of the CW, it is located above the cooktop at eye level. A number of GMCers that I know mounded the microwave in the location of the oven under the countertop. Great location, but wrong location. Ask the wife how much she wants to bend down and use and look into the MW. After they saw the installation that we did a number redid the MW location.
(Special Note, always read the captions under the pictures, their can be a bunch of extra information.)
I made a mockup of the MW unit to make it fit the available space.

Remember that not all MW are created of equal size. The 820 requires a little more depth for fitment.

Our X-Birchaven's kitchen is remarkably similar to JR's in that we
eliminated the stove and use a 2-burner cooktop instead (it's now got a
sit-over cover which is seldom removed):

The big difference is that the convection microwave is across the hall,
over the foot of the bed, in otherwise unused space:

There have been changes since those photos were made. After the trip to
Alaska, SHE said she'd never expand that bed to queen size again, isolating
the bathroom and shutting down the kitchen. So, I converted to a sofa/twin
bed across from the kitchen, retaining the over-the-feet microwave, and
replaced the 2 captain's chairs behind the driver with another sofa/twin
bed. The 13" TV got replaced with an on-that-wall 26" flat screen.
The over-the-feet microwave location has proven ideal.

That is a really gorgeous renovation and a lot of food for thought as I
move forward with 'Blondie'.

I stand by my original post of yesterday. 2007 pricing was $250 and todays pricing has gone up.

Problem here for me is, and yes your setup makes sense, is i would basically have to rip out the whole kitchen etc to do that....if the oven was under the cook top i wouldnt even worry about it. ....ill have to see if i have a picture to show you (if not ill have one saturday when i get home)
