I need to replace the power steering pump not because its leaking but the power assist has gradually lowered. There are two part numbers in the GMCMI Parts Exchange for each supplier. It is original has served well for over 40 years. I did a search of Forum and did not find any suggested part number but a suggestion that the motorhome one is not the same as the Torondo. I would like to get a new one rather that take a chance on a rebuild. Our coach is a 1976.

Al,
It's been quite a while, but I found the Saginaw pump VERY easy to
"rebuild" with an inexpensive kit. You may want to try that -- the R&R are
the worst part of the job! :-)

If you get a replacement pump, insure it is the same thickness. A slightly thicker one may interfere with an alternator bracket bolt on the head. That may require removal of the new pump, shaving the bolt head, and then re-assembling that puzzle of PS mounting brackets. Also, don't forget the hidden washer, number 10 on the parts breakdown page (16-19 in my parts book). Without it the pulleys will not be straight, and thrown belts may be in your life.

Also make sure your problem isn't a clogging filter. (If you haven't
already.)

Al was a very early installer of my electric wiper kit, so he doesn't have
the OEM filter tube (I guess he might have installed an inline filter
though).

Need to address the shaft as it is either a Keyed or press on.
To get the correct one, you can contact us or gamble on getting the correct.

There has been an in line filter on almost as long as the electric wiper system that is still working very well. The oil looks good and of course full. It couldn't be anything as obvious as a clogged filter !! I couldn't be that lucky. I'll check it and replace it anyway. The oil has been changed three or four times including when a Dave Lenzi steering box went on about six years ago.
Thanks for the replies.

Also be sure that the one you get has the reservoir properly clocked. I had to return one to Rock Auto and you get to pay the shipping. I did not pay attention to the picture when I ordered. They had the right one and the wrong one. I just replaced all that when I did the timing chain.

In my research/reading this morning I discovered there is an internal filter as well. I suspect that my also be part or all of the problem.

I'll just finish this off by saying the power steering pump and tank were replaced this morning. It took a lot of research to get the right parts mainly because some NAPA numbers are different between the US and Canada. The correct pump was found by cross referencing with the original GM part number. Had to order the tank from Summit Racing. The pump was NAPA (Cdn ??) 732015 and the tank was Summit Racing 19-7074B5B. Another delay was getting an appointment during the pandemic when some businesses are having trouble finding enough employees.
In the end it is now done.

You could use a remote version if you could find one that fits and figure where to locate the reservoir. For a couple of pieces of hose you could install a cooler as well.

Hi all,
My power steering pump pulley is out-of-line with the other pulleys. There is lots of belt noise. The pulley looks to be around 1/16" to 1/8" forward of where it should be.
Could that be because of the missing 'hidden washer'?
Does anyone know the dimensions of the washer so I can replace it if needed?
thanks in advance
