Besides my 75 Avion with twin beds, which is mechanically sound and soon to
be cosmetically acceptable, I have a 31' PaceArrow we call 'Plan B'. I just
redid the roof: 1. Scrub with Ajax. 2. Pressure wash. 3. Repair several
spots and around openings with sealant. 4. Apply primer with brush(on knees)
5. Apply final coat with brush (on knees). 6. Finish all sides into drip
rail standing on 12' ladder.

I do NOT plan to wax my roof on the Avion.

Maybe I'm the odd man out here. I like having older toys. GMC, old Harley,
old Ranger boat. etc. But Appearance is important to me. When they are
clean and polished they are "Classy" and collectable.
When dirty, faded, and in poor condition...... its just another beater on
the road. None of my toys are perfect or even close.... but they sure look
alot better with a shine!
I don't judge anyone else for what they choose to do, but it makes me feel
proud to turn heads. To each his own.
My windows have limo tint on them. After a rain, I get alot of streaking
from the roof run off. I am hoping that by cleaning and polishing the roof
that it may stay more clean and will have less streaking.
I will also enjoy looking down on the top of my polished GMC next to a SOB
with a grungy roof. LOL

Ken, just be careful up there. Slick, waxed surface, mature, distracted,
male standing on it gawking at the competition, sounds like a receipe for a
tumble off the roof. We take longer to heal broken bones these days. But,
on your side a bit, I don't like those weather streaks on the glass,
either. They look like crap. From both sides.

On that note, has anyone put grip tape strips beside the pod? I think I
may add some for traction. I do use my pod often and have been up there
when its wet from dew or rain. Having a polished roof would add some
excitement or at least increase the pucker factor!! Jim, thanks for the
heads up. Its better to think about this from my computer instead of from
my back laying on the wet ground beside my coach looking up at the wet roof
I just fell off!!

I found the solution for cleaning my roof. I found a very beautiful 36 year old blonde lady and sent her up there with a scrub brush and hose. She spent over an hour up there with me watching as the ground crew. God, it was nice watching her work. I think that is the cleanest it has ever been. I really was too busy watching her.

Maybe I will talk her into polishing it this year.

Ken you have become a dreamer but it would be good therapy for an old man. For me if the roof is oxidized a good marine deck paint and a paint roller is a good way to go it shouldn’t dry slick at least in my case it didn’t

When we pulled into Potato Creek Campground a few years back to meet with a
group having a Rally, we pulled into our campsite, and there, next campsite
over, was a Canadian couple that also were blue water long distance
sailors. The Skipper was the observer, and his first mate was very busy
polishing the Alcoa's on their 23 foot Birchaven. She was smudged with
oxidized mag wheel cleaner, the weather was warm, and she was dressed in
appropriate shorts, and a loose tank top. I wondered how the skipper could
get her to polish those mags, but she explained that as first mate, those
kinds of duties fell to her.
I would have 0 chance in hell to convince Judy to polish the Eagles on
our coach. (Grin) Guess it takes a 50 foot Blue Water Sailboat to gain
those priveledges.
The Canadian Couple have grown to be fast friends with us, since that
route 66 trip.

In the past a few owners used ZEP Wet Look Floor Finish on their roofs and other panels.
Anyone have an update on how it's held up.

I would be interested in how well it held up also. Oh, and how hard it would be to remove.
Thanks, Jerry
